وَعَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ : أَنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ كَانَ اسْمُهُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ عَبْدَ الْكَعْبَةِ ، فَسَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .

Ibn Sirin narrates: In the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) the name of Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abd al-Ka'bah, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named him Abd al-Rahman.
