وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ : كَانَ اسْمِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ عَبْدَ عَمْرٍو ، فَسَمَّانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ : إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ، وَهُوَ ضَعِيفٌ .

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: In the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) my name was Abd Amr, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named me Abd al-Rahman.
