Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) complained about Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Khalid! Why have you hurt a man from the people of Badr? Even if you were to spend gold equal to Mount Uhud in charity, you would still not reach his deeds." Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "They were criticising me, so I answered them back." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not hurt Khalid, for he is one of the swords of Allah Almighty, which Allah Almighty has unleashed upon the disbelievers."
Imam al-Tabarani and Imam al-Bazzar recorded this narration, and the narrators of Imam al-Tabarani are thiqat (trustworthy).
