وَعَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَالَ : أَقْطَعَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَعُمَرَ أَرْضَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، فَذَهَبَ الزُّبَيْرُ - رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ - إِلَى آلِ عُمَرَ فَاشْتَرَى نَصِيبَهُ مِنْهُمْ ، فَأَتَى عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانٍ فَقَالَ : إِنَّ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنَ عَوْفٍ زَعَمَ أَنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَقْطَعُهُ وَعُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ أَرْضَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، وَإِنِّي اشْتَرَيْتُ نَصِيبَ آلِ عُمَرَ ؟ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ : عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ جَائِزُ الشَّهَادَةِ لَهُ وَعَلَيْهِ .
رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ .

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted me and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) land at such-and-such a place. Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the family of Umar and bought their share from them. Then he came to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Abd al-Rahman bin Awf says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him and Umar bin al-Khattab such-and-such a place, and I have bought the share of the family of Umar." Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The testimony given by Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman is acceptable, whether it is in someone's favour or against someone."
