Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Once I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) become angry over the matter of Banu Ka'b, and so intensely angry that I had not seen him so angry for a long time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty not help me if I do not help Banu Ka'b." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Tell Abu Bakr and Umar to prepare for this campaign." The narrator says: Those two men came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said: "Where does the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intend to go?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) replied: "I have seen the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) so angry over the matter of Banu Ka'b that I have not seen him so angry for a long time."
Abu Ya'la recorded it from Hizam bin Hisham bin Hubaysh, from his father, from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Ibn Hibban declared both of them thiqah (trustworthy). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Dhu al-Jawshan al-Dibabi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: After the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished with the people of Badr, I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with the foal of my mare, whose name was al-Qarha'. I said: "O Muhammad! I have brought you the foal of al-Qarha' so that you may take it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have no need of it. If you wish, I will give you in exchange for it a choice coat of mail from the armour of Badr." He said: "I will not take anything today as compensation." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then I have no need of it." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Dhu al-Jawshan, why do you not accept Islam, so that you become one of those who joined at the beginning of this matter?" I said: "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why is that?" I said: "I have seen that your people are set against you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Has news not reached you of what happened to them at Badr?" I said: "News of it has reached me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We will guide you." I said: "If you prevail over the Ka'bah and make it your home (or gain control of that place), then very well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you live, you will see that too." Then he said: "O so-and-so, take this man's bag and put some Ajwah dates in it as provision for the journey." When I went back, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is one of the best horsemen of Banu Amir." The narrator says: By Allah, I was staying with my family at a place called al-Ghawr when a rider came. I asked: "What has happened with the people?" He said: "By Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has prevailed over the Ka'bah, and his control has been established there." I said: "May my mother lose me! Had I accepted Islam that day and then asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for the place called al-Hirah, he would have granted me even that as a land grant."

In one narration the words are: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What prevents you from this?" He replied: "I have seen your people: they denied you, they forced you to leave, and they fought against you. So I am watching to see what becomes of you. If you prevail over them, I will believe in you and follow you, and if they prevail over you, I will not follow you." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud has recorded part of this report.
Abdullah bin Ahmad and his father recorded it, though they did not cite the wording of the text.
Al-Tabarani also recorded it, and the narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih.

May Allah Almighty keep you firm upon guidance; give help that is the strongest, and call the servants of Allah; they will come as help (or) reinforcement."

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to go to Makkah, he sent word to some of his Companions that he wanted to go to Makkah. Among those Companions was Sayyiduna Hatib bin Abi Balta'ah (may Allah be pleased with him). Before the people, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had made it appear that he wanted to go to Hunayn. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Hatib (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote a letter to the people of Makkah saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to come against them. The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to know of this. He sent me and Abu Marthad al-Ghanawi, and every man who was with us had a horse with him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go to the garden called Khakh; there you will meet a woman who will have a letter with her. Take it from her." The narrator says: We set off until we saw that woman at the place the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had mentioned. We said to her: "Give us that letter." She said: "I have no letter with me." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We had her baggage unloaded and searched it, but we did not find the letter in her baggage. Abu Marthad said: "Perhaps this woman does not have a letter." We said: "The Messenger of Allah did not speak falsely, nor were we told anything false." We said to that woman: "Either you bring out that letter, or we will search your person." She said: "Do you not fear Allah Almighty? Are you not Muslims?" We said: "Either you bring it out, or we will search your person." The narrator Amr bin Murrah has reported the words here that the woman brought it out from her braided hair. The narrator Habib bin Abi Thabit has reported the words here that she brought it out from the front part of her body. After this the narrator mentioned the whole hadith. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This report is mentioned in the "Sahih" without this wording.
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its chain contains a narrator, al-Harith al-A'war, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyidah Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her), the respected wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), narrates that one night the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed at her place. Then he got up for the prayer and began to perform ablution. Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I heard him saying during his ablution: "Here I am, here I am," which he said three times; then he said these words three times: "You have been helped, you have been helped." When he came out, I said: "O Messenger of Allah! I heard you during your ablution saying three times, 'Here I am, here I am,' and saying three times, 'You have been helped, you have been helped.' It seemed as though you were talking with some person. Was anyone with you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A reciter of rajaz verses from Banu Ka'b was calling out to me for help. He was saying that Quraysh had helped Bakr bin Wa'il against them." The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out. He instructed Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) to prepare his equipment and not to tell anyone. She narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to her and said: "My daughter, what are these preparations for?" She said: "By Allah, I do not know." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This is not the season for fighting the Banu al-Asfar (the Romans) either; so where does the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intend to go?" Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "By Allah, I have no knowledge of it." Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Then we stayed for three days. Then one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer, and I heard a reciter of rajaz recite these verses: "O Allah! I implore Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), by (Allah), (in the name of) the alliance that has stood since ancient times between my forefathers and his. We gave birth to you, and so you were born; then we accepted Islam and you did not withdraw your hand. Quraysh have broken their pledge to you and violated the firm covenant made with you. They think that you will not call anyone (against Quraysh). May Allah Almighty keep you firm upon guidance; give help that is the strongest, and call the servants of Allah; they will come as help (or) reinforcement. Among them will be the Messenger of Allah, plainly visible, white like the full moon, facing hardships; (if his companions) are being subjected to humiliation, the colour of his face changes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Here I am, here I am," which he said three times; then he said three times: "You have been helped, you have been helped." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out. When he reached al-Rawha', he saw a cloud that had gathered, and he said: "This cloud has gathered to help Banu Ka'b." At that, a man from Banu Adi bin Amr, who were the brothers of Banu Ka'b bin Amr, said: "O Messenger of Allah! And is it also to help Banu Adi?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May your neck be covered in dust! Adi is none other than Ka'b, and Ka'b is none other than Adi." That man drank the cup of martyrdom during that journey. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, keep them unaware of us until we seize them suddenly." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set off until he encamped at the place called Marr. Abu Sufyan, Hakim bin Hizam and Budayl bin Warqa' went out that night, and they looked out over the place Marr. Abu Sufyan saw fires burning and said: "O Budayl, these are the fires of your family, Banu Ka'b." Budayl said: "War has stirred them up and is bringing them towards you." That night the men of Muzaynah seized them; guard duty was assigned to them. They requested that they be taken to Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib, and they took them to Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib. Abu Sufyan asked him to seek permission for them from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He went out with them until he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to grant protection to those to whom Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) had granted protection. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever you have granted protection, I too grant him protection, but Abu Sufyan will not be included in it." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, do not place a restriction on me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever you have granted protection is safe." Then Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) took them to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then they came out from there, and Abu Sufyan said: "I want to leave." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Let the morning come." In the morning the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up to perform ablution, and the Muslims rushed towards his ablution water, taking the water that fell from his ablution and rubbing it on their faces. Abu Sufyan said: "O Abu al-Fadl, your nephew's kingship has become mighty." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This is not kingship; rather, it is prophethood, and that is what they are eager for."

Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Yahya bin Sulayman bin Nadlah, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on his journey. He appointed Sayyiduna Abu Ruhm Kulthum bin al-Husayn bin Utbah bin Khalaf al-Ghifari as his deputy in Madinah. He set out after ten days of Ramadan had passed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting, and the people with him were fasting too, until, when he reached a spring of water called al-Kadid between Usfan and Amaj, he broke the fast. Then he kept going until he encamped at Marr al-Zahran; at that time there were ten thousand Muslims with him. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: in the "Sahih" a part of this report is mentioned in the chapter on fasting.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except for Ibn Ishaq, and he has explicitly stated that he heard it directly.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out. He appointed Sayyiduna Abu Ruhm Kulthum bin al-Husayn al-Ghifari as the overseer of Madinah. He set out on the tenth of Ramadan. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting, and the people with him were fasting too. When he reached al-Kadid, which is a water (spring or pool) between Usfan and Amaj, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) broke the fast. Then he kept going until he encamped at Marr al-Zahran with ten thousand Muslims. A thousand men belonged to the tribes of Muzaynah and Sulaym; several men from every tribe were with him, and all the Muhajirun and Ansar were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); not one of them had stayed behind. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encamped at Marr al-Zahran, Quraysh had no news of it: no news of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had reached them, and they did not know what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to do. That night Abu Sufyan bin Harb, Hakim bin Hizam and Budayl bin Warqa' went out; they wanted to spy and see whether they could find any news or hear anything about it. Somewhere along the way Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) had met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Before this, Abu Sufyan bin al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib and Abdullah bin Abi Umayyah bin al-Mughirah had met the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) between Madinah and Makkah. The two of them asked to be admitted to the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) presence. Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) spoke with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this. She said: "O Messenger of Allah! Your cousin, and your paternal aunt's son who is also your in-law, want to meet you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not want to meet the two of them. As for my cousin, he dishonoured me in Makkah; and as for my paternal aunt's son, who is also my in-law, he said such-and-such things about me in Makkah." When he went out to them with this, Abu Sufyan had his son with him. Abu Sufyan (bin al-Harith bin Abd al-Muttalib) said: "By Allah, either you will give me permission, or I will take this son of mine by the hand and go off to some land where we will die of hunger and thirst." When this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), his heart softened towards the two of them, and he gave them both permission. They entered and accepted Islam. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encamped at Marr al-Zahran, Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Alas for the ruin of Quraysh! By Allah, if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) enters Makkah by force, and that happens before the people of Makkah obtain safety from him, Quraysh will be destroyed forever." The narrator says: I mounted the white mule of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and set out from there until I came to the place called al-Arak. I said (to myself): "Perhaps I may meet one of the wood-gatherers, or a milkman, or someone else on some errand, who will go to Makkah and inform those people of the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) here, so that they may obtain safety from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) enters upon them by force." The narrator says: By Allah, I was riding along on it, looking for someone suited to this task, when I heard the voices of Abu Sufyan and Budayl bin Warqa', the two of them talking together. Abu Sufyan was saying: "I have never seen fires like today's, and never seen so large an army." Budayl was saying: "By Allah, these are the fires of Khuza'ah; war has drawn them here." Abu Sufyan said: "Khuza'ah? By Allah, they are too lowly and too weak for these to be their fires and their army." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I recognised his voice and said: "O Abu Hanzalah!" He too recognised my voice and said: "Abu al-Fadl?" I said: "Yes." He said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, what is the matter?" I said: "Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan! This is the Messenger of Allah present among the people, and, by Allah, now ruin will come upon Quraysh." He said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you, then what can be done now?" I said: "If he gets hold of you, he will strike your neck. Ride with me on this mule, so that I may take you to the Messenger of Allah and obtain safety for you from him." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: He mounted behind me, and his two companions went back. I set the mule moving. Whenever I passed by the fire of any Muslims, they would ask: "Who is this?" Then when they saw the mule of the Messenger of Allah, they would say: "The uncle of the Messenger of Allah is riding his mule," until we passed by the fire of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: "Who is this?" He got up and came towards me. When he saw Abu Sufyan sitting on the back part of the mule, he said: "Abu Sufyan, the enemy of Allah! All praise belongs to Allah Almighty, who has given you into our power without any agreement." Then he ran towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I too spurred the mule and got ahead of him as an animal can get ahead of a man. I got down from the mule and presented myself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, this is Abu Sufyan, whom Allah Almighty has given into our power without any pact or agreement. Permit me to strike his neck." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have granted him protection." Then I sat down by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and took hold of his head, and I said: "No, by Allah, tonight no one but me will speak privately with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) insisted much about this, I said: "Wait, O Umar! By Allah, if he were a man from Banu Adi bin Ka'b, you would not have said this; but you know that he belongs to Banu Abd Manaf." Umar said: "Wait, O Abbas! By Allah, when you accepted Islam, your accepting Islam was dearer to me than my own father's accepting Islam would have been, had he accepted it. The only reason for this is that I know that your accepting Islam was dearer to the Messenger of Allah than al-Khattab's accepting Islam." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abbas, take him with you to your lodging, and in the morning bring him to me." I took Abu Sufyan with me to my lodging, and he spent the night with me. The next day I took him with me to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he said: "Woe to you, Abu Sufyan! Has the time not yet come for you to bear witness that there is no god but Allah Almighty?" Abu Sufyan said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! How noble you are, how forbearing, how kind to your kin! By Allah, I think that if there were any other god besides Allah Almighty, he would have been of some use to me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to you, Abu Sufyan! Has the time not yet come for you to know that I am the Messenger of Allah?" Abu Sufyan said: "May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! How forbearing, how noble, how kind to your kin you are! By Allah, this matter has been in my heart for a long time, until this moment came." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: "Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan! Accept Islam and bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, before they strike your neck." The narrator says: So Abu Sufyan bore true witness and accepted Islam. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Sufyan is a man who loves prestige, so grant him something." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well: whoever enters Abu Sufyan's house will be safe, whoever shuts his door will be safe, and whoever enters the Mosque will be safe." When he turned to leave, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abbas, hold him back in the narrow part of the valley, at the foot of the mountain, until the armies of Allah pass by there and he sees them." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I went out with him until I held him back in the narrow part of the valley, where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had ordered me to hold him. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The various tribes began to pass by there with their banners. Whenever a tribe passed, he would ask: "O Abbas, who is this?" Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) would say: "This is Banu Sulaym," and he would reply: "What have I to do with Banu Sulaym?" Then another tribe passed, and he asked: "Who is this?" I replied: "This is Muzaynah." He said: "What have I to do with Muzaynah?" And so on, until many tribes had passed. Whenever a tribe passed, he would say: "Who are these people?" and I would reply: "These are Banu so-and-so," and he would say: "What have I to do with Banu so-and-so?" Until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed in the midst of the Green Battalion, in which were the Muhajirun and the Ansar; nothing of them could be seen except their eyes. He said: "Subhan Allah! O Abbas, who is this?" I said: "This is the Messenger of Allah among the Muhajirun and the Ansar." He said: "No one has the strength to face these. By Allah, O Abu al-Fadl, your nephew's kingship has become mighty." I said: "O Abu Sufyan, this is prophethood." He said: "Yes, then that is fine." I said: "Now safety lies in going to your people." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then Abu Sufyan went off from there until he came to those people, and he called out at the top of his voice: "O company of Quraysh! Here is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), who has come to you with those whom you do not have the courage to face. Whoever enters Abu Sufyan's house will be safe." Abu Sufyan's wife, Hind bint Utbah, got up and came to him, seized him by his moustache and said: "Kill this worthless man; what a bad scout of his people he is!" Abu Sufyan said: "Woe to you! Do not be deceived about yourselves, for that has come to you which you do not have the strength to face. Whoever enters Abu Sufyan's house will be safe." The people said: "Woe to you! How many people will fit in your house?" He said: "Whoever shuts his door will also be safe, and whoever enters the Mosque will also be safe." So the people scattered to their houses and to the Mosque.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted the people safety, excepting only four persons: Abd al-Uzza bin Khatal, Miqyas bin Subabah, Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh, and a woman named Sarah. As for Abd al-Uzza, he was killed while he was holding on to the coverings of the Ka'bah. The narrator says: A man from the Ansar had vowed that he would kill Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh when he saw him. Abdullah bin Sa'd was the foster-brother of Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) took him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and interceded for him. When the Ansari saw him, he took hold of his sword and went out in search of him. He found him in the circle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was afraid to kill him and fell into hesitation; he did not like to attack him, because that man was in the circle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) extended his blessed hand and took his pledge of allegiance. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the Ansari: "I kept waiting for you to fulfil your vow concerning him." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I was in awe of you; you should have given me a sign." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not fitting for a prophet to make secret signs." As for Miqyas bin Subabah, he had a brother who had been killed by mistake while with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent with him a man from Banu Fihr so that he could collect the blood-money from the Ansar. When the items of blood-money had been gathered for him and he was returning, the Fihri man fell asleep. Miqyas got up, took a stone and killed the Fihri man with it. Then, as he came along, he was reciting these verses: "My soul has been healed by the one who died on the plain, propped up, his garments dyed with the blood of his various veins. Before his killing, the anxieties of my soul were so many that they made me forget rest upon my bed. Through him I have taken my revenge and attained my aim, and I have become the first to return to the idols." As for the woman named Sarah, she was a freed slave-woman of Quraysh. She came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained to him of her need, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her something. Then a man came to her and gave that woman a letter for the people of Makkah; through it he wanted to gain favour with the people of Makkah so that his family would be protected, because his family were in Makkah. Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) informed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) after that woman. The two of them caught up with her and searched her, but they found nothing on her. Then the two of them started back. Meanwhile one of them said to the other: "By Allah, we have not been told anything false, nor have we spoken falsely. Let us go back to that woman." So the two of them went back to her, drew their swords and said: "By Allah, we will surely make you taste death, or else you hand that letter over to us." The woman denied it; then she said: "I will hand it over to you on the condition that you do not take me back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." The two of them accepted that condition. The woman untied her hair and took out a letter from her braids and handed it to the two of them. Those two men brought the letter back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and presented it to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for that man and asked: "What is the matter with this letter?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I will tell you about it. Everyone who is with you has some relative or other in Makkah who can protect his family. So I wrote this letter to those people so that they would protect my family." So Allah Almighty revealed these verses about this: "O you who believe! Do not take My enemy and your enemy as friends, offering them affection," to the end of the verses.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, al-Hakam bin Abd al-Malik, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted all the people safety; only the case of four men and two women was different. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Kill them, even if you find them clinging to the coverings of the Ka'bah: Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl, Abdullah bin Khatal, Miqyas bin Subabah and Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh." As for Abdullah bin Khatal, he was found clinging to the coverings of the Ka'bah and was killed there. Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Hurayth (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) rushed towards him; Sayyiduna Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) reached him before Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him), because he was the younger of the two, and he killed him. As for Miqyas bin Subabah, the people caught him in the market. As for Ikrimah, he boarded a ship and set out on a sea voyage. On the way a storm came. Those running the ship said to the people on the ship: "Now (pray to Allah Almighty) with sincerity, for your gods will be of no use here now." Ikrimah said: "If nothing but sincerity can save me at sea, then on land too nothing other than it will save me. O Allah, I make this pledge to You: if You rescue me from the calamity I am in, I will go to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and put my hand in his hand, and I will surely find him forgiving and generous." The narrator says: Then he came and accepted Islam. After this the narrator mentioned the whole hadith. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud and others have recorded this report in abridged form.
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar also recorded it. They added these words: As for Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) showed him kindness. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people to pledge allegiance, Sayyiduna Uthman brought him along and made him stand before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Take Abdullah's pledge of allegiance." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and looked at him, and he did not accept this. After three times he took his pledge; he took his pledge with his fingers. Then he turned towards the people, and after praising and extolling Allah Almighty, he said: "Was there not among you a man of sense who, when he saw that I had held my hand back from his pledge, would have killed him?" The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! You should have signalled to us with your eye." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not fitting for a prophet to have a treacherous eye." The narrators of both reports are thiqat (trustworthy). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: the hadith reported from Sa'id bin Yarbu' will come later, Allah willing, along with other hadiths of this kind.

Abu Layla narrates: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "Abu Sufyan is among the arak trees." We went in among them and seized him. The Muslims brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) between their swords. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to you, O Abu Sufyan! I have come to you with this world and the Hereafter. Accept Islam and you will be safe." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was Abu Sufyan's friend. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Sufyan loves prominence." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a herald to announce in Makkah: "Whoever shuts his door will be safe, whoever lays down his weapons will be safe, and whoever enters Abu Sufyan's house will be safe." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) with Abu Sufyan, and the two of them sat down by the mountain pass. Banu Salamah came, and Abu Sufyan said: "O Abbas, who are these people?" He told him: "These are Banu Sulaym." He said: "What have I to do with Sulaym?" Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came among the Muhajirun, and he asked: "O Abbas, who is this?" He told him: "This is Ali bin Abi Talib among the Muhajirun." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came among the Ansar, and he asked: "O Abbas, who is this?" He told him: "This is red death; this is the Messenger of Allah among the Ansar." Abu Sufyan said: "I have seen the kingship of Kisra and Caesar, but I have never seen a kingship like your nephew's." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "This is prophethood."

Urwah narrates: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out with twelve thousand men from the Muhajirun, the Ansar, the tribe of Aslam, the tribe of Ghifar, the tribe of Juhaynah and Banu Sulaym. Horsemen were leading them, until they encamped at Marr al-Zahran, and Quraysh had no knowledge of them. They sent Hakim bin Hizam and Abu Sufyan to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "Obtain protection for us from him, or else declare war on them." Abu Sufyan bin Harb and Hakim bin Hizam set out. The two of them met Budayl bin Warqa' and asked him to come along with them, until they reached the place called al-Arak near Makkah. Night had fallen. They saw tents and an army and heard the neighing of horses, and they became alarmed and frightened by it. They said: "These seem to be Banu Ka'b, who have come for war." Budayl said: "Their number is greater than Banu Ka'b. By Allah, we do not recognise this; these are like the pilgrims (countless people)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent some horsemen ahead of him who would seize the spies, and the people of the tribe of Khuza'ah were on the road; they would not let anyone pass. When Abu Sufyan and his companions entered the camp of the Muslims, the horsemen seized them in the night and brought them in. They feared that they might be killed. Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) got up, advanced towards Abu Sufyan and struck Abu Sufyan on the neck. Then the people seized Abu Sufyan and took him along to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Abu Sufyan feared that he would be killed. Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) had been his friend since the Age of Ignorance. He said in a loud voice: "Will you not take me to Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)?" Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and pushed the people away from him. He requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to hand Abu Sufyan over to him, and the people went back to their places. In the night Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) mounted Abu Sufyan with him and kept going around the army with him until all the people had seen him. At the time when Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) struck Abu Sufyan on the neck, he had said: "By Allah, you will not come near the Messenger of Allah until you die." So Abu Sufyan had sought help from Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "I will be killed." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade the people from doing anything to him. When Abu Sufyan saw the great number of the people and their obedience, he said: "I have never seen such a gathering of a people as tonight." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) freed him from their hands and said: "If you do not accept Islam and bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, you will be killed." Then he wanted to recite the words that Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) was directing him to, but his tongue would not move. He spent that night with Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). As for Hakim bin Hizam and Budayl bin Warqa', the two of them presented themselves before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and accepted Islam, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept asking them about the people of Makkah. When the call to the dawn prayer was given and movement began among the people, Abu Sufyan became alarmed and said: "O Abbas, what is it you people want to do?" He told him: "These are the Muslims, who are glad at the presence of the Messenger of Allah." Then Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) went out with him. When Abu Sufyan saw the conduct of those people, he said: "O Abbas, whatever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commands these people, they carry it out!" Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them food and drink, they would obey the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in that too." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Speak with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about your people, whether he has any room for forgiving them." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) brought Abu Sufyan with him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! This is Abu Sufyan." Abu Sufyan said: "O Muhammad, I sought help from my god, and you sought help from your God. By Allah, I see that you have prevailed over me. Had my god been true and your God false, I would have prevailed over you." Then Abu Sufyan bore witness that there is no god but Allah Almighty and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! I would like you to give me permission to go to your people and warn them about the situation that has come about, and to call them to Allah and His Messenger." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah, what shall I say to them? Make the safety clear for me, so that they may be reassured about it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say to them: whoever bears witness that there is no god but Allah Almighty, He alone, who has no partner, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger, that person will be counted safe; whoever sits by the Ka'bah and lays down his weapons will be counted safe; and whoever shuts his door will be counted safe." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Sufyan is our cousin, and he would like to go back with me. It would be fitting if you were to single him out for some favour." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever enters Abu Sufyan's house will be safe." Abu Sufyan's house was in the upper part of Makkah. (The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "Whoever enters the house of Hakim bin Hizam and holds back his hand will be safe." Hakim's house was in the lower part of Makkah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) his white mule to ride, which Sayyiduna Dihyah al-Kalbi (may Allah be pleased with him) had given to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a gift. Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) seated Abu Sufyan behind him and set off. When Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) had set off, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent someone after him and said: "Go to Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and bring him back to me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told those people about the thing he feared. That messenger went to Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) disliked going back and said: "Does the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fear that Abu Sufyan, seeing how few the people are, will turn back and become a disbeliever after being a Muslim?" The messenger said: "Keep him held back." So Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) held him back. Abu Sufyan said: "O Banu Hashim, is this treachery?" Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We do not commit treachery, but I have something I need from you." He said: "What is it? I will get it done." Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When Khalid bin al-Walid and al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam come before you, you are to see them." So Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) halted at a narrow spot at the place called Marr, short of al-Arak. Abu Sufyan had taken his words to heart. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent the horsemen one after another. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had divided the horsemen into two parts. He sent Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), and after him he sent Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) with the army that belonged to the tribes of Aslam, Ghifar and Quda'ah. Abu Sufyan asked: "O Abbas, is this the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "No, rather this is Khalid bin al-Walid." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) ahead of him in a small detachment of the Ansar. Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Today is the day of battle, and today the sanctity will be made lawful." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in the midst of a detachment of the Muhajirun and the Ansar. When Abu Sufyan saw many faces he did not recognise, he asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Have you increased the number of these people over your own people (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are) chosen these people?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What you and your people did, you did. These people affirmed my truth when you people denied me, and these people helped me when you people drove me out." The narrator says: At that time al-Aqra' bin Habis, Abbas bin Mirdas and Uyaynah bin Hisn bin Badr al-Fazari were also with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When he saw these people around the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he asked: "O Abbas, who are these people?" He told him: "This is the detachment of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and with it is red death; these are the Muhajirun and the Ansar." Abu Sufyan said: "O Abbas, move on. I have never seen armies and a gathering like today's." Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), going along with the people, came and halted at the place called al-Hajun. Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) entered the city from the lower part of Makkah. Some ruffians of Banu Bakr confronted him, and Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) killed them, and Allah Almighty routed those people. They were killed at the place called al-Hazwarah, until they went into the houses. A group of them came up onto the mountain of al-Khandamah, and the Muslims pursued them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was among those coming in the rear. A herald announced: "Whoever shuts the door of his house and keeps back his hand will be counted safe." Abu Sufyan announced in Makkah: "Accept Islam and you will be safe." In this way Allah Almighty kept them safe through Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). Meanwhile Hind bint Utbah came; she seized Abu Sufyan's beard and then cried out loudly: "O family of Ghalib, kill this foolish old man!" Abu Sufyan said: "Let go of my beard. I swear by the name of Allah that if you do not accept Islam, your neck will be struck. Woe to you, the truth has come! Go into your house and keep quiet."

Al-Tabarani recorded it as a "mursal" report. Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, whose hadith is hasan (good), and there is weakness in him.

Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Yarbu' (may Allah be pleased with him), whose name was "al-Sarm", narrates: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There are four persons to whom I will not grant safety, whether in the Hill (outside the sanctuary) or in the Haram: al-Huwayrith bin Nufayl, Miqyas bin Subabah, Hilal bin Khatal and Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh." As for al-Huwayrith, Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) killed him. As for Miqyas bin Subabah, his cousin killed him. As for Hilal bin Khatal, Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) killed him. As for Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh, Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) obtained safety for him, because he was the foster-brother of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Likewise, Miqyas had two slave-girls who used to sing poetry satirising the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); one of them was killed, and the other came and accepted Islam. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud has recorded a part of this report.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). Hadiths of this kind on this subject have already passed two leaves before this.

Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) halted at Dhu Tuwa, Sayyiduna Abu Quhafah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the youngest daughter among his children: "My daughter, take me up Mount Abu Qubays." The narrator says: By that time his sight had gone. That girl narrates: I took him and climbed the mountain. He said: "My daughter, what do you see?" The girl replied: "I see a great many people." He said: "They must be the horsemen." The girl said: "I see a man who, in front of them, is sometimes coming this way and sometimes going that way." He said: "My daughter, that will be the marshal," meaning the man who gives orders to the horsemen and sends them forward. The girl narrates: "By Allah, now they have begun to spread out." Abu Quhafah said: "By Allah, in that case the horsemen must have set off. Take me quickly to my house." They came down from there. Before they reached his house, the horsemen had reached them. The girl had a silver necklace on her neck. A man came to the girl and snatched that necklace from her neck. The girl narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived and came into the Mosque, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came into his presence bringing his father with him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he said: "Why did you not let this venerable elder stay at home? I would have come to him myself." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! He is more entitled to walk to you than that you should walk to him." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seated him in front of himself, then passed his hand over his chest and then said to him: "Accept Islam," and he accepted Islam. At the time Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the head of Sayyiduna Abu Quhafah (may Allah be pleased with him) was white like the flower called thaghamah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Change the colour of his hair." Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up, took his sister by the hand and said: "I ask in the name of Allah and Islam: return my sister's necklace." But no one answered him. Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "My sister, hope for reward (from Allah) for your necklace."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it. He added these words: "By Allah, honesty has now become scarce among people." The narrators of both reports are thiqat (trustworthy). He also recorded it through another chain from Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), with similar wording. The narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

This was on the day of the Conquest of Makkah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Why did you not let this venerable elder stay at home, so that we would have gone to him?" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I intended that Allah Almighty should give him reward. My state was such that Abu Talib's accepting Islam would have been a greater cause of joy to me than my own father's accepting Islam, and, O Messenger of Allah, my aim in that was that it would bring coolness to your eyes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have spoken the truth."

Urwah bin al-Zubayr narrates: Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl fled and set off towards Yemen. Umm Hakim bint al-Harith bin Hisham, who by that time had become a Muslim and who was the wife of Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl, asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to search for her husband. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her permission and also granted Ikrimah safety. That woman set out from there taking her Roman slave with her. That slave's intentions turned bad; the woman kept coaxing and humouring him until, when she reached Akk, she sought help from those people against that slave, and they tied him up. Somewhere in Tihamah the woman reached her husband, whose situation was that he had boarded a ship. When he sat in that ship, he called upon al-Lat and al-Uzza. The people of the ship said: "It is not right to call upon anyone here except Allah Almighty; only He may be called upon, with sincerity." Ikrimah said: "By Allah, if He is of use at sea, then on land too only He can be of use. I swear by the name of Allah that I will go back to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." So Ikrimah came back with his wife. He presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his pledge. When Banu Bakr were routed, a man of the tribe of Hudhayl came fleeing to his wife. That woman blamed him, called him feeble and taunted him for fleeing, and he recited these verses: "If you had seen us at al-Khandamah, when Safwan fled and Ikrimah fled too, and the drawn swords overtook us, cutting off every forearm and skull, you would not have uttered the slightest word of blame."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and
this report is "mursal". Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, whose hadith is hasan (good), and there is weakness in him.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever enters Abu Sufyan's house will be safe, and whoever shuts his door will be safe." Then he stood up, and I took his hand and seated him by the road. The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to pass by there in squadrons. He would ask: "Who are these people?" and I would say: "These are the people of the tribe of Muzaynah." He would say: "What have I to do with Muzaynah? There was no war between me and them, either in the Age of Ignorance or in the time of Islam." Then another squadron passed, and he asked: "Who are these people?" I said: "These are the people of the tribe of Juhaynah." Until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed in the midst of the Muhajirun. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the home of Sayyidah Umm Hani' bint Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was feeling hungry. Sayyidah Umm Hani' (may Allah be pleased with her) said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Some of my in-laws have taken refuge with me, and Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) is a man who, in matters of Allah Almighty, does not care for the blame of any blamer. I fear that if he learns about my relatives, he will kill them. So decree that whoever enters the house of Umm Hani' will be counted safe, until those people hear the word of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted those people safety and said: "Whomever Umm Hani' has given protection, we too give protection." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Do you have anything that we may eat?" She said: "I have only a dry piece of bread, and I feel ashamed to present it to you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring that." Sayyidah Umm Hani' (may Allah be pleased with her) broke it up and put it in water; then she brought salt. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Is there any condiment?" Sayyidah Umm Hani' (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have nothing except a little vinegar." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring that and pour it over the food." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ate it, and then he praised Allah Almighty, and then he said: "Vinegar is an excellent condiment. O Umm Hani', the people of a house in which there is vinegar are not without a condiment."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, and its chain contains a narrator, Sa'dan bin al-Walid, whom I do not know.

Al-Zuhri narrates: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): "Bring me the key of the Ka'bah." He was delayed in coming. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing, waiting for him, until drops of sweat like pearls ran down from him. He said: "Why is he not coming?" A man ran to him and found that the woman who had the key would not give it to him; the narrator stated that the woman was the mother of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). She was saying: "If he takes this key from you, he will never give it back to you." Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) kept telling the woman to give the key, until she gave it to him. He brought the key to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) opened the door, then went inside the Ka'bah, then came out with some people accompanying him, and sat down by the Siqayah (the post of providing water to pilgrims). Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have been granted prophethood, we have been given the office of the Siqayah, and we have been given the office of the Hijabah (custodianship of the Ka'bah); then no people would have a greater share than us." It was as if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked his statement. He called Sayyiduna Uthman bin Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) and, handing the key to him, said: "Keep it safe." Imam Abd al-Razzaq said: I narrated this hadith to Ibn Uyaynah, and he said: Ibn Jurayj told me that Ibn Abi Mulaykah said: When Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the key, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) at that time: "I give you that in which you bear hardship; I do not give you that from which you receive gifts." The narrator says: what is meant by the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is: I have given you the Siqayah because you bear hardship in it; I have not given you the key of the House of Allah, because people receive gifts through it. This explanation is that of Imam Abd al-Razzaq.
Al-Tabarani recorded it as a mursal report, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When Makkah was conquered for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Hold back your weapons, except that the case of Khuza'ah regarding the Banu Bakr is different." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave them permission until, when he had offered the Asr prayer, he said: "Hold back your weapons." The next day a man from the tribe of Khuza'ah met a man from the Banu Bakr at Muzdalifah and killed him. When news of this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he stood up to deliver a sermon. The narrator says: I saw him with his back leaning against the Ka'bah. He said: "The most transgressing of people before Allah Almighty is the one who kills someone in the Haram, or kills someone other than his own killer, or kills someone on the basis of the blood feuds of the Days of Ignorance." Then a man stood up before him and said: "So-and-so is my son." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no standing for such a claim in Islam; the affairs of the Days of Ignorance are gone. The child belongs to the owner of the bed, and for the fornicator is the athlab." The people asked: "What is meant by athlab?" He said: "The stone" (or deprivation). The narrator states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "No prayer is to be offered after the Fajr prayer until the sun rises, and no prayer is to be offered after the Asr prayer until the sun sets." He also said: "A woman is not to be married in addition to her paternal aunt or her maternal aunt." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: in the Sahih, the part of this report prohibiting prayer after the Fajr prayer is mentioned, and part of this report is also mentioned in the Sunan.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the people: "This year is the year of the Greater Hajj. In it the Hajj of the Muslims and the Hajj of the polytheists coincided for three consecutive days, and the Hajj of the Jews and the Hajj of the Christians coincided for six consecutive days. Since the heavens and the earth were created until now, they have never coincided, and after this year they will never coincide until the Hour is established."
Al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains Yusuf bin Khalid al-Samti, who is da'if (weak).
