Sayyiduna Dhu al-Jawshan al-Dibabi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: After the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had finished with the people of Badr, I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with the foal of my mare, whose name was al-Qarha'. I said: "O Muhammad! I have brought you the foal of al-Qarha' so that you may take it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have no need of it. If you wish, I will give you in exchange for it a choice coat of mail from the armour of Badr." He said: "I will not take anything today as compensation." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then I have no need of it." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Dhu al-Jawshan, why do you not accept Islam, so that you become one of those who joined at the beginning of this matter?" I said: "No." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why is that?" I said: "I have seen that your people are set against you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Has news not reached you of what happened to them at Badr?" I said: "News of it has reached me." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "We will guide you." I said: "If you prevail over the Ka'bah and make it your home (or gain control of that place), then very well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you live, you will see that too." Then he said: "O so-and-so, take this man's bag and put some Ajwah dates in it as provision for the journey." When I went back, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He is one of the best horsemen of Banu Amir." The narrator says: By Allah, I was staying with my family at a place called al-Ghawr when a rider came. I asked: "What has happened with the people?" He said: "By Allah, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has prevailed over the Ka'bah, and his control has been established there." I said: "May my mother lose me! Had I accepted Islam that day and then asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for the place called al-Hirah, he would have granted me even that as a land grant."
