Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of the Conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted all the people safety; only the case of four men and two women was different. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Kill them, even if you find them clinging to the coverings of the Ka'bah: Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl, Abdullah bin Khatal, Miqyas bin Subabah and Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh." As for Abdullah bin Khatal, he was found clinging to the coverings of the Ka'bah and was killed there. Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Hurayth (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) rushed towards him; Sayyiduna Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) reached him before Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him), because he was the younger of the two, and he killed him. As for Miqyas bin Subabah, the people caught him in the market. As for Ikrimah, he boarded a ship and set out on a sea voyage. On the way a storm came. Those running the ship said to the people on the ship: "Now (pray to Allah Almighty) with sincerity, for your gods will be of no use here now." Ikrimah said: "If nothing but sincerity can save me at sea, then on land too nothing other than it will save me. O Allah, I make this pledge to You: if You rescue me from the calamity I am in, I will go to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and put my hand in his hand, and I will surely find him forgiving and generous." The narrator says: Then he came and accepted Islam. After this the narrator mentioned the whole hadith. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud and others have recorded this report in abridged form.
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar also recorded it. They added these words: As for Abdullah bin Sa'd bin Abi Sarh, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) showed him kindness. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called the people to pledge allegiance, Sayyiduna Uthman brought him along and made him stand before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Take Abdullah's pledge of allegiance." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his head and looked at him, and he did not accept this. After three times he took his pledge; he took his pledge with his fingers. Then he turned towards the people, and after praising and extolling Allah Almighty, he said: "Was there not among you a man of sense who, when he saw that I had held my hand back from his pledge, would have killed him?" The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! You should have signalled to us with your eye." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not fitting for a prophet to have a treacherous eye." The narrators of both reports are thiqat (trustworthy). (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: the hadith reported from Sa'id bin Yarbu' will come later, Allah willing, along with other hadiths of this kind.
