Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) brought his father, Sayyiduna Abu Quhafah (may Allah be pleased with him), to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); he had walked him along, because he was an old blind man. This was on the day of the Conquest of Makkah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Why did you not let this venerable elder stay at home, so that we would have gone to him?" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I intended that Allah Almighty should give him reward. My state was such that Abu Talib's accepting Islam would have been a greater cause of joy to me than my own father's accepting Islam, and, O Messenger of Allah, my aim in that was that it would bring coolness to your eyes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have spoken the truth."
Al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Ubaydah, who is da'if (weak).
