Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 10245

Urwah bin al-Zubayr narrates: Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl fled and set off towards Yemen. Umm Hakim bint al-Harith bin Hisham, who by that time had become a Muslim and who was the wife of Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl, asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to search for her husband. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her permission and also granted Ikrimah safety. That woman set out from there taking her Roman slave with her. That slave's intentions turned bad; the woman kept coaxing and humouring him until, when she reached Akk, she sought help from those people against that slave, and they tied him up. Somewhere in Tihamah the woman reached her husband, whose situation was that he had boarded a ship. When he sat in that ship, he called upon al-Lat and al-Uzza. The people of the ship said: "It is not right to call upon anyone here except Allah Almighty; only He may be called upon, with sincerity." Ikrimah said: "By Allah, if He is of use at sea, then on land too only He can be of use. I swear by the name of Allah that I will go back to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." So Ikrimah came back with his wife. He presented himself before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accepted his pledge. When Banu Bakr were routed, a man of the tribe of Hudhayl came fleeing to his wife. That woman blamed him, called him feeble and taunted him for fleeing, and he recited these verses: "If you had seen us at al-Khandamah, when Safwan fled and Ikrimah fled too, and the drawn swords overtook us, cutting off every forearm and skull, you would not have uttered the slightest word of blame."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and
this report is "mursal". Its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, whose hadith is hasan (good), and there is weakness in him.
