Sayyiduna Abu al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) conquered Makkah, he sent Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to Nakhlah, where the idol called al-Uzza was. Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) came there; it was on three samurah trees. Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) cut down the trees and demolished the house that was over it. Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go back, for you have not done anything" (that is, you have not completed the task). Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) went back. When its custodians saw him, they fled deep into the mountain, saying: "O Uzza, drive him mad! O Uzza, blind him!" Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) came there, and there was a naked woman with her hair dishevelled, throwing dust on her head. Sayyiduna Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) struck her with the sword and killed her. Then he returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about it, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That was al-Uzza."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Yahya bin al-Mundhir, who is da'if (weak).
