Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, an angel came to me and said: Indeed, your Lord says to you: Are you not pleased that no one from your Ummah sends blessings (salat) upon you once except that I send ten mercies upon him, and no one sends salutations (salam) upon you once except that I send peace upon him ten times? I said: Certainly (I am pleased)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, part of honouring Allah Almighty is to show respect to the grey-haired Muslim, to show respect to the bearer of the Qur'an who neither goes to extremes in it nor turns away from it, and to show respect to the just ruler."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the most beloved of you to me are those of you who are best in character."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the most beloved of you to me and the nearest of you to me in sitting on the Day of Resurrection are those who are best in character. And indeed, among the most hateful of you to me and the farthest of you from me on the Day of Resurrection are those who talk excessively, those who speak affectedly, and al-mutafayhiqun. The Companions asked: O Messenger of Allah, who are al-mutafayhiqun? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The arrogant."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the people with the finest voice in reciting the Qur'an is the one who, when you hear him reciting, you feel that he fears Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the worst forms of usury (riba) is to make unjust attacks on the honour of a Muslim with one's tongue."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the people who will receive the severest punishment on the Day of Resurrection are those who imitate the creation of Allah (that is, those who make images and statues of living beings)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the signs of the Hour is that you will fight a people who wear sandals made of hair, and among the signs of the Hour is also that you will fight a people with broad faces, as though their faces were shields covered with layer upon layer of hide."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the signs of the Hour is that (religious) knowledge will be taken away, ignorance will prevail, fornication will become widespread, wine will be drunk, and men will become few while women remain, until fifty women will have only one man to look after them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the signs of the Hour is that knowledge will be sought from the lesser ones (that is, people of little knowledge and low standing)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the purest things a person eats is what comes from his own earnings, and his children are also part of his earnings."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the greatest forms of jihad is to speak a word of truth (and justice) before a tyrannical ruler."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the greatest of lies are that a person attributes his lineage to someone other than his real father, or makes his eyes see what they did not see (that is, he relates a false dream), or attributes to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) something he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the greatest of lies is that a man makes his eyes see in a dream what they did not see (that is, he relates a false dream)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the best of your days is Friday. On it Adam (peace be upon him) was created, on it his soul was taken, on that day the Trumpet will be blown, and on that day everyone will be struck unconscious. So send abundant blessings upon me on that day, for your blessings are presented to me. Indeed, Allah Almighty has forbidden the earth from consuming the bodies of the prophets."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the gravest of the major sins are associating partners with Allah, disobedience to parents, and al-yamin al-ghamus (a deliberately false oath). And whoever swears by Allah an oath that he is bound to (or swears it of his own accord), and includes in it (falsehood) even the size of a mosquito's wing, a black spot is placed on his heart until the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the gravest of sins is that a man curses his own parents. (When the Companions asked, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It happens like this:) he abuses another man's father, so that man in return abuses his father; and he abuses his mother, so that man in return abuses his mother."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, some eloquent speech (and oratory) has (the effect of) magic, and indeed, some poetry contains (words of) wisdom."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, some eloquent speech (oratory) truly has (the effect of) magic."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, wine is made from wheat, wine is made from barley, wine is made from dates, wine is made from raisins, and wine is made from honey; and I forbid (the use of) every intoxicant."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the trees there is a tree whose leaves do not fall, and indeed, it is like the Muslim. So tell me, which tree is it?" (When the people remained silent,) he (peace and blessings be upon him) then said: "It is the date palm."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, some poetry contains wisdom."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, wine is made from grapes, wine is made from dates, wine is made from honey, wine is made from wheat, and wine is made from barley."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, there is a kind of protective jealousy (ghayrah) that Allah loves and a kind that Allah dislikes. Likewise, there is a kind of pride (in one's gait) that Allah loves and a kind that Allah dislikes. As for the jealousy that Allah loves, it is jealousy where there is cause for suspicion (when there is fear of something unlawful); and the jealousy that Allah dislikes is jealousy without reason (without any cause for suspicion). And the pride that Allah loves is a man walking proudly on the battlefield and when giving charity; and the pride that Allah dislikes is a man walking proudly out of transgression and arrogance."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the practices of the fitrah (natural disposition) are these: rinsing the mouth, putting water into the nose, using the miswak, trimming the moustache, clipping the nails, plucking the armpit hair, removing the pubic hair, washing the finger joints (thoroughly), sprinkling water (on the clothes after istinja, to ward off doubts about urine), and circumcision."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, some people are keys to good and locks against evil, and indeed, some people are keys to evil and locks against good. So glad tidings to the one in whose hands Allah Almighty has placed the keys of good, and woe and ruin to the one in whose hands Allah Almighty has placed the keys of evil."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, in my Ummah there will be some people who will be given a reward like that of the first of this Ummah (that is, the noble Companions); they will be those who forbid evil (and wrongdoing)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, straightening the rows is part of the completeness of the prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the worst of people in the sight of Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection will be the two-faced person (the hypocrite with two faces)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, from the offspring of this man there will come a people who will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will kill the people of Islam and leave the idol-worshippers alone. They will pass out of Islam as swiftly as an arrow passes through the body of the game. If I live to see them, I will kill them as the people of Ad were killed (uprooting them completely)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the servants of Allah Almighty are some who, if they were to swear an oath relying on Allah, Allah Almighty would fulfil their oath."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, in the direction of the setting of the sun (in the west) there is an open door (of repentance) whose width is equal to a distance of seventy years. That door will remain open until the sun rises from that direction (the west). So when the sun rises from that direction, then 'No soul will benefit from its faith if it had not believed before or had not earned some good through its faith.' [Surah al-An'am: 158]"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among what has reached the people from the words of the earlier prophethood is this: If you have no modesty, then do whatever you wish."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the deeds and good works whose reward continues to reach the believer after his death are these: knowledge that he spread, a righteous child whom he left behind, a copy of the Qur'an that he left as inheritance, or a mosque that he built, or a house that he built for travellers, or a stream that he made flow, or charity that he gave from his wealth while in good health and during his lifetime; the reward of all of these continues to reach him even after his death."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the deeds that make forgiveness due are spreading the greeting of salam abundantly and speaking in a good and gentle manner."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, ahead of you are days in which ignorance will descend, knowledge will be taken away, and al-harj, that is, killing and bloodshed, will become widespread."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, after you there will come a time of patience in which the one who holds firmly (to the religion) will have a reward equal to that of fifty martyrs from among you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the blessings of a woman is that her proposal of marriage is easy, her dowry (mahr) is easy, and her womb (that is, the stage of childbirth) is easy."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among you are some men to whom I do not give anything (from wealth to win over their hearts); rather, I entrust them to their faith (that is, I rely on their firm faith). Among them is Furat bin Hayyan (may Allah be pleased with him)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, among the people of Hell there will be some whom the Fire will seize up to their ankles, some whom the Fire will seize up to their knees, some whom the Fire will seize up to their waists, and some whom the Fire will seize up to their necks."
