Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, As-Salam is one of the names of Allah Almighty which has been placed on earth, so spread the greeting of salam among yourselves."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, lending (to someone) holds the rank of (the reward of) half a charity."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the one who is present sees what the absent one cannot see."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah; they are not eclipsed for the death or the life of anyone. So when you see this (eclipse), supplicate to Allah, say the takbir, pray and give charity. O Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! By Allah, there is no one more jealous (of His honour) than Allah when His male servant commits adultery or His female servant commits adultery. O Ummah of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! By Allah, if you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much. O Allah, have I conveyed the message?"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the sun and the moon will be two hamstrung bulls in the Fire."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the sun and the moon are not eclipsed for the death or the life of anyone; rather, they are two of the signs of Allah by which Allah Almighty frightens His servants. So when you see it, pray and supplicate until the state you are in is lifted."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the month can also be twenty-nine days."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, an old man has control over himself (his desires)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when Satan hears the call to prayer (adhan), he turns his back and flees passing wind so that he may not hear its sound. Then when the adhan ends, he comes back and whispers. Then when he hears the iqamah, he flees so that he may not hear its sound, and when the iqamah ends, he comes back again and whispers."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when Satan hears the call to prayer (adhan), he flees so far that he reaches the place of al-Rawha."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan appeared before me and pressed hard against me in order to break my prayer, but Allah Almighty gave me power over him, so I choked him. And I had intended to tie him to one of the pillars of the mosque so that you could see him in the morning, but I remembered this saying of Sulayman (peace be upon him): 'My Lord! Grant me a kingdom such as will not befit anyone after me.' [Surah Sad: 35] So Allah sent him back humiliated and disgraced."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan said: 'O my Lord! By Your Might, I will keep on leading Your servants astray as long as their souls remain in their bodies.' So the Lord, the Exalted, said: 'By My Might and My Majesty! I will keep on forgiving them as long as they keep seeking My forgiveness.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan has despaired of being worshipped by those who pray (in the Arabian Peninsula), but (he has hope) in stirring up quarrels, strife and discord among them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan sits in wait for the son of Adam on his paths to lead him astray. He sat in wait for him on the path of Islam and said: 'Will you accept Islam and abandon your religion and the religion of your forefathers?' But the man disobeyed him and became a Muslim. Then he sat in wait for him on the path of emigration (hijrah) and said: 'Will you emigrate and leave your land and your sky (your homeland)? The example of the emigrant is like that of a horse tied to a tether.' But he disobeyed him and emigrated. Then he sat in wait for him on the path of jihad and said: 'Will you fight in jihad, when it is a toil of both life and wealth? You will fight and be killed, then someone else will marry your wife and your wealth will be divided up?' But he disobeyed him and fought in jihad. So whoever does that, it is a right upon Allah that He admit him into Paradise; whoever is killed (in jihad), it is a right upon Allah that He admit him into Paradise; if he drowns, it is a right upon Allah that He admit him into Paradise; and if his mount throws him and kills him, then too it is a right upon Allah that He admit him into Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan considers lawful for himself the food over which the name of Allah (Bismillah) has not been mentioned. When he brought this Bedouin in order to make the food lawful for himself through him, I took hold of his (the Bedouin's) hand; then he brought this girl in order to make it lawful through her, so I took hold of her hand as well. By the One in whose Hand is my soul! Satan's hand was indeed in my hand along with both of their hands."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Umar! Indeed, Satan fears you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan comes to one of you during his prayer and confuses him until he does not know how many units (rak'ahs) he has prayed. So when any of you experiences this, let him perform two prostrations (the prostrations of forgetfulness) while sitting, before saying the salam, and then let him say the salam."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan comes to one of you and says: 'Who created the sky?' He replies: 'Allah.' Then he says: 'Who created the earth?' He replies: 'Allah.' Then he says: 'Who created Allah?!' So when any of you experiences such a whisper, let him say: 'I believe in Allah and His Messenger.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan comes to one of you and asks: 'Who created you?' He says: 'Allah.' Then he says: 'Then who created Allah?' So when any of you feels this, let him say: 'I believe in Allah and His Messengers.' Indeed, saying this will drive that whisper away from him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan circulates within the human being (the son of Adam) just as blood circulates."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan is present with you at every one of your affairs, so much so that he is present even when you eat. So when a morsel falls from any of you, let him remove whatever dirt (dust and the like) is on it and then eat it, and not leave it for Satan. And when he finishes eating, let him lick his fingers, for he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, trials are made severe for the righteous. And no calamity befalls a believer, whether the prick of a thorn or anything greater than that, except that because of it one of his sins is forgiven and he is raised one degree in rank."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"True patience is only that which is shown at the first blow of a calamity (the initial shock)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, if a huge rock were thrown from the edge of Hell, it would keep falling into it for seventy years and still would not reach its bottom."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, charity (zakah) is not lawful for us, and indeed the freed slave of a people is counted as one of them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, it is not permissible for the family of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to accept charity, for it is nothing but the dirt of people."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise; and a man keeps on speaking the truth until he is recorded with Allah as a great truthful one (siddiq). And indeed, lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire of Hell; and a man keeps on lying until he is recorded with Allah as a great liar (kadhdhab)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, clean earth is a means of purification as long as you do not find water, even if (you do not find water) for ten years. Then when you find water, apply it to your skin (that is, perform ghusl or wudu)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, clean earth is the ablution (and purification) of the Muslim, even if he does not find water for ten years. So when he finds water, let him pour it over his body (skin), for that is better for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the five prayers remove sins just as water washes away dirt."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, oppression will be a cause of many darknesses on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when a servant commits a sin, a black spot is placed upon his heart. If he refrains from that sin, seeks forgiveness and repents, his heart is cleaned and polished. But if he returns to sin, that blackness is increased until it covers his whole heart. And this is the rust that Allah Almighty has mentioned (in this verse): 'No! Rather, the rust of what they used to earn has covered their hearts.' [Surah al-Mutaffifin: 14]"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when a servant stands to pray, all his sins are brought and placed on his head and his two shoulders. Then every time he bows or prostrates, those sins fall away from him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when a servant curses something, that curse goes up toward the sky, but the gates of the sky are shut against it. Then it descends to the earth, and the gates of the earth are also shut against it. Then it seeks a way to the right and to the left, and when it finds no way, it returns to the person (or thing) that was cursed. If that one deserves it, (it falls upon it); otherwise it returns to the one who uttered it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when a servant falls ill, Allah Almighty reveals to His angels: 'I have bound My servant with one of My fetters. So if I take his life (in this state), I will forgive him; and if I restore him to health, he will rise up with no sin upon him.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when a slave is sincere toward his master and also worships his Lord well, he will have a double reward."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when a servant is placed in his grave and his companions turn away and leave him, so much so that he hears the sound of their footsteps, two angels come to him, sit him up and ask him: 'What did you used to say about this man (that is, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him))?' As for the believer, he says: 'I bear witness that he is the servant of Allah and His Messenger.' Then it is said to him: 'Look at your place in Hell; Allah has indeed given you in exchange for it a place in Paradise.' So he sees both places, and his grave is widened for him by seventy cubits, and it is made green and lush for him until the Day of Resurrection. As for the disbeliever or the hypocrite, when he is asked: 'What did you used to say about this man?' he replies: 'I do not know; I used to say what the people said.' Then it will be said to him: 'You neither tried to know for yourself nor followed those who read (the Qur'an).' Then he will be struck between his two ears with such a forceful blow from an iron hammer that he will let out a terrible scream, which everything around him will hear except humans and jinn, and his grave will be made so narrow for him that his ribs will interlock with one another."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when the believing servant is about to depart from this world and turn toward the Hereafter, angels with white faces descend to him from the sky, their faces shining like the sun. They have with them one of the shrouds of Paradise and one of the perfumes of Paradise, and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits at his head and says: 'O good soul! Come out to forgiveness from Allah and His pleasure.' So the soul comes out as easily as a drop of water flows from the mouth of a waterskin. Then he (the angel) takes hold of it, and when he takes hold of it, the other angels do not leave it in his hand even for the blink of an eye, until they take it and place it in that shroud and that perfume. And there comes from it a fragrance like the finest musk ever found on the face of the earth. Then they ascend with it, and they do not pass by any gathering of angels except that they ask: 'Whose is this good soul?' So they tell them, calling him by the best of his names in this world: 'This is so-and-so, son of so-and-so.' Until they reach with it the lowest heaven and ask for the gate to be opened, and it is opened for them. The angels nearest to Allah in every heaven escort it to the next heaven, until they reach the seventh heaven. Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'Write the record of My servant in Illiyyin, and return My servant to the earth, for from it I created them, into it I will return them, and from it I will bring them out once again.' So his soul is returned to his body. Then two angels come to him, sit him up and ask: 'Who is your Lord?' He says: 'My Lord is Allah.' They ask: 'What is your religion?' He says: 'My religion is Islam.' They ask: 'Who is this man who was sent among you?' He says: 'He is the Messenger of Allah.' They ask: 'How did you come to know?' He says: 'I read the Book of Allah, believed in it and affirmed it.' Then a caller calls out from the sky: 'My servant has spoken the truth, so spread for him a bed from Paradise, clothe him with the garments of Paradise, and open for him a door to Paradise.' So its breezes and fragrances keep coming to him from there, and his grave is widened for him as far as the eye can see. Then a man with a handsome face, fine clothes and a pleasant fragrance comes to him and says: 'Rejoice at what will delight you; this is your day which you were promised.' The servant asks him: 'Who are you? Yours is the face that brings good.' He says: 'I am your righteous deeds.' The servant says: 'O my Lord! Establish the Hour! O my Lord! Establish the Hour! So that I may return to my family and my wealth.' And indeed, when the disbelieving servant is about to depart from this world and turn toward the Hereafter, angels with black faces descend to him from the sky, carrying sackcloth (coarse cloth), and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits at his head and says: 'O wicked soul! Come out to the displeasure and wrath of Allah.' So the soul hides throughout his whole body, and the angel drags it out just as an iron skewer is pulled out of wet wool. Then he takes hold of it, and when he takes hold of it, the other angels do not leave it in his hand even for the blink of an eye, until they wrap it in that sackcloth. And there comes from it a stench like the foulest stench of a rotting corpse ever found on the face of the earth. Then they ascend with it, and they do not pass by any gathering of angels except that they say: 'Whose is this wicked soul?' So they tell them, calling him by the worst of his names in this world: 'This is so-and-so, son of so-and-so.' Then the gate is asked to be opened for him, but it is not opened for him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: 'The gates of heaven will not be opened for them.' [Surah al-A'raf: 40] Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'Write his record in Sijjin, in the lowest earth.' Then his soul is flung down violently. So his soul is returned to his body. And two angels come to him, sit him up and ask: 'Who is your Lord?' He says: 'Alas, alas! I do not know.' They ask: 'What is your religion?' He says: 'Alas, alas! I do not know.' They ask: 'Who is this man who was sent among you?' He says: 'Alas, alas! I do not know.' Then a caller calls out from the sky: 'My servant has lied, so spread for him a bed of fire and open for him a door to Hell.' So its heat and scorching wind keep coming to him from there, and his grave is made so narrow for him that his ribs interlock with one another. Then an extremely ugly man with foul clothes and a putrid smell comes to him and says: 'Receive the tidings of what will grieve you; this is your day which you were promised.' He asks: 'Who are you? Yours is the face that brings evil.' He says: 'I am your wicked deeds.' Then he says: 'O my Lord! Do not establish the Hour.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, a servant is rewarded for all of his spending except for constructing buildings (for extravagance and show)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, a servant (thoughtlessly) utters a word whose consequences he does not reflect upon, and because of that one word he falls into the Fire of Hell a distance farther than that between the east and the west."
