"إن العبد المؤمن إذا كان في انقطاع من الدنيا وإقبال من الآخرة نزل إليه من السماء ملائكة بيض الوجوه كأن وجوههم الشمس معهم كفن من أكفان الجنة وحنوط من حنوط الجنة حتى يجلسوا منه مد البصر ثم يجيء ملك الموت حتى يجلس عند رأسه فيقول: أيتها النفس الطيبة اخرجي إلى مغفرة من الله ورضوان فتخرج فتسيل كما تسيل القطرة من في السقاء فيأخذها فإذا أخذها لم يدعوها في يده طرفة عين حتى يأخذوها فيجعلوها في ذلك الكفن وفي ذلك الحنوط ويخرج منها كأطيب نفحة مسك وجدت على وجه الأرض فيصعدون بها فلا يمرون على ملأ من الملائكة إلا قالوا ما هذا الروح الطيب؟ فيقولون: فلان ابن فلان بأحسن أسمائه التي كانوا يسمونه بها في الدنيا حتى ينتهوا به إلى سماء الدنيا فيستفتحون له فيفتح له فيشيعه من كل سماء مقربوها إلى السماء التي تليها حتى ينتهي إلى السماء السابعة فيقول الله عز وجل: اكتبوا كتاب عبدي في عليين ¤ وأعيدوا عبدي إلى الأرض فإني منها خلقتهم وفيها أعيدهم ومنها أخرجهم تارة أخرى; فتعاد روحه فيأتيه ملكان فيجلسانه فيقولان له: من ربك؟ فيقول: ربي الله فيقولان له: ما دينك؟ فيقول: ديني الإسلام فيقولان له: ما هذا الرجل الذي بعث فيكم؟ فيقول: هو رسول الله فيقولان له: وما علمك؟ فيقول: قرأت كتاب الله فآمنت به وصدقت فينادي مناد من السماء: أن صدق عبدي فأفرشوه من الجنة وألبسوه من الجنة وافتحوا له بابا إلى الجنة فيأتيه من روحها وطيبها ويفسح له في قبره مد بصره ويأتيه رجل حسن الوجه حسن الثياب طيب الريح فيقول: أبشر بالذي يسرك هذا يومك الذي كنت توعد فيقول له: من أنت؟ فوجهك الوجه يجيء بالخير فيقول: أنا عملك الصالح فيقول: رب أقم الساعة رب أقم الساعة؟ حتى أرجع إلى أهلي ومالي. ¤ وإن العبد الكافر إذا كان في انقطاع من الدنيا وإقبال من الآخرة نزل إليه من السماء ملائكة سود الوجوه معهم المسوح فيجلسون منه مد البصر ثم يجيء ملك الموت حتى يجلس عند رأسه فيقول: أيتها النفس الخبيثة! اخرجي إلى سخط من الله وغضب فتفرق في جسده فينتزعها كما ينتزع السفود من الصوف المبلول فيأخذها فإذا أخذها لم يدعوها في يده طرفة عين حتى يجعلوها في تلك المسوح ويخرج منها كأنتن ريح جيفة وجدت على وجه الأرض فيصعدون بها فلا يمرون بها على ملأ من الملائكة إلا قالوا ما هذا الروح الخبيث؟! فيقولون: فلان ابن فلان بأقبح أسمائه التي كان يسمى بها في الدنيا فيستفتح له فلا يفتح له ثم قرأ: {لَا تُفَتَّحُ لَهُمْ أَبْوَابُ السَّمَاءِ} فيقول الله عز وجل: اكتبوا كتابه في سجين في الأرض السفلى فتطرح روحه ¤ طرحا فتعاد روحه في جسده; ويأتيه ملكان فيجلسانه فيقولان له: من ربك؟ فيقول: هاه هاه لا أدري فيقولان له: ما دينك؟ فيقول: هاه هاه لا أدري فيقولان له: ما هذا الرجل الذي بعث فيكم؟ فيقول: هاه هاه لا أدري فينادي مناد من السماء: أن كذب عبدي فأفرشوه من النار وافتحوا له بابا إلى النار فيأتيه من حرها وسمومها ويضيق عليه قبره حتى تختلف أضلاعه ويأتيه رجل قبيح الوجه قبيح الثياب منتن الريح فيقول: أبشر بالذي يسوؤك هذا يومك الذي كنت توعد فيقول: من أنت فوجهك الوجه يجيء بالشر؟ فيقول: أنا عملك الخبيث فيقول: رب لا تقم الساعة"
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when the believing servant is about to depart from this world and turn toward the Hereafter, angels with white faces descend to him from the sky, their faces shining like the sun. They have with them one of the shrouds of Paradise and one of the perfumes of Paradise, and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits at his head and says: 'O good soul! Come out to forgiveness from Allah and His pleasure.' So the soul comes out as easily as a drop of water flows from the mouth of a waterskin. Then he (the angel) takes hold of it, and when he takes hold of it, the other angels do not leave it in his hand even for the blink of an eye, until they take it and place it in that shroud and that perfume. And there comes from it a fragrance like the finest musk ever found on the face of the earth. Then they ascend with it, and they do not pass by any gathering of angels except that they ask: 'Whose is this good soul?' So they tell them, calling him by the best of his names in this world: 'This is so-and-so, son of so-and-so.' Until they reach with it the lowest heaven and ask for the gate to be opened, and it is opened for them. The angels nearest to Allah in every heaven escort it to the next heaven, until they reach the seventh heaven. Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'Write the record of My servant in Illiyyin, and return My servant to the earth, for from it I created them, into it I will return them, and from it I will bring them out once again.' So his soul is returned to his body. Then two angels come to him, sit him up and ask: 'Who is your Lord?' He says: 'My Lord is Allah.' They ask: 'What is your religion?' He says: 'My religion is Islam.' They ask: 'Who is this man who was sent among you?' He says: 'He is the Messenger of Allah.' They ask: 'How did you come to know?' He says: 'I read the Book of Allah, believed in it and affirmed it.' Then a caller calls out from the sky: 'My servant has spoken the truth, so spread for him a bed from Paradise, clothe him with the garments of Paradise, and open for him a door to Paradise.' So its breezes and fragrances keep coming to him from there, and his grave is widened for him as far as the eye can see. Then a man with a handsome face, fine clothes and a pleasant fragrance comes to him and says: 'Rejoice at what will delight you; this is your day which you were promised.' The servant asks him: 'Who are you? Yours is the face that brings good.' He says: 'I am your righteous deeds.' The servant says: 'O my Lord! Establish the Hour! O my Lord! Establish the Hour! So that I may return to my family and my wealth.' And indeed, when the disbelieving servant is about to depart from this world and turn toward the Hereafter, angels with black faces descend to him from the sky, carrying sackcloth (coarse cloth), and they sit around him as far as the eye can see. Then the Angel of Death comes and sits at his head and says: 'O wicked soul! Come out to the displeasure and wrath of Allah.' So the soul hides throughout his whole body, and the angel drags it out just as an iron skewer is pulled out of wet wool. Then he takes hold of it, and when he takes hold of it, the other angels do not leave it in his hand even for the blink of an eye, until they wrap it in that sackcloth. And there comes from it a stench like the foulest stench of a rotting corpse ever found on the face of the earth. Then they ascend with it, and they do not pass by any gathering of angels except that they say: 'Whose is this wicked soul?' So they tell them, calling him by the worst of his names in this world: 'This is so-and-so, son of so-and-so.' Then the gate is asked to be opened for him, but it is not opened for him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: 'The gates of heaven will not be opened for them.' [Surah al-A'raf: 40] Then Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'Write his record in Sijjin, in the lowest earth.' Then his soul is flung down violently. So his soul is returned to his body. And two angels come to him, sit him up and ask: 'Who is your Lord?' He says: 'Alas, alas! I do not know.' They ask: 'What is your religion?' He says: 'Alas, alas! I do not know.' They ask: 'Who is this man who was sent among you?' He says: 'Alas, alas! I do not know.' Then a caller calls out from the sky: 'My servant has lied, so spread for him a bed of fire and open for him a door to Hell.' So its heat and scorching wind keep coming to him from there, and his grave is made so narrow for him that his ribs interlock with one another. Then an extremely ugly man with foul clothes and a putrid smell comes to him and says: 'Receive the tidings of what will grieve you; this is your day which you were promised.' He asks: 'Who are you? Yours is the face that brings evil.' He says: 'I am your wicked deeds.' Then he says: 'O my Lord! Do not establish the Hour.'"
