Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you acquires a woman (as a wife), a servant or a riding animal, he should take hold of her forelock, pray for blessing, and say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min khayriha wa khayri ma jubilat 'alayhi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jubilat 'alayhi' (O Allah, I ask You for her good and the good of the nature upon which she has been created, and I seek refuge in You from her evil and the evil of the nature upon which she has been created). And if it is a camel, he should take hold of the top of its hump."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you extends his hand to his private part (and touches it), he should perform ablution."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you extends his hand to his private part, with no covering or cloth between his hand and it, then ablution has certainly become obligatory upon him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you breaks his fast, let him break it with a date, for it is pure blessing. If he cannot find a date, let him break it with water, for water is a means of purification."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the night approaches from this side (the east), the day departs from this side (the west), and the sun has set, then it is time for the fasting person to break his fast."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When time draws near (that is, when the Hour is near), the dream of a Muslim man will hardly ever be false, and the truest in dreams among you will be the one who is most truthful in speech."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the believer is made to sit up in his grave and (the angels) come to him, he bears witness that there is no true god except Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah. That is the meaning of the saying of Allah Almighty: 'Allah keeps firm those who believe with the firm word.' [Surah Ibrahim: 27]"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the prayer is started, perform the circuit (tawaf of the Ka'bah) riding on your camel behind the people."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the prayer is started, say the takbir (Allahu Akbar), then recite whatever is easy for you of the Qur'an, then bow until you are at rest in bowing, then rise until you are standing straight, then prostrate until you are at rest in prostration, then rise until you are at rest sitting, then prostrate until you are at rest in prostration, and then do this throughout your whole prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the prayer is started, do not come to it running, but come to it walking, and upon you is dignity and calmness. Whatever (of the prayer with the imam) you catch, pray it, and whatever you miss, complete it (afterwards)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the prayer is called (iqamah), do not stand up until you see me (coming out of my room)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the (obligatory) prayer is started, there is no prayer (to be offered) except the obligatory prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the prayer is started and one of you is fasting, he should begin with the evening meal (iftar) before the Maghrib prayer, and do not hurry away from your evening meal."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the prayer is started and a man needs to relieve himself, he should first go to relieve himself."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the prayer is started and the evening meal is served, first eat the evening meal."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you applies kohl, he should apply it an odd number of times, and when he cleans himself with stones (after relieving himself), he should use an odd number."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When they (the enemy) come close to you, shoot arrows at them, and save some of your arrows (for the final moment)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man declares his (Muslim) brother a disbeliever, then one of the two will certainly return with it (disbelief)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you is eating food and his morsel falls, he should remove whatever dirt has got on it and then eat it, and not leave it for Satan."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you eats food, he should not wipe his hand with a napkin until he has licked it himself or had it licked (by someone else)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you eats food, he should mention the name of Allah. If he forgets to mention the name of Allah at the beginning, he should say: 'Bismillahi 'ala awwalihi wa akhirihi' (In the name of Allah, at its beginning and its end)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you eats food, he should say: 'Allahumma barik lana fihi wa abdilna khayran minhu' (O Allah, bless it for us and grant us in exchange something better than it). And when he drinks milk, he should say: 'Allahumma barik lana fihi wa zidna minhu' (O Allah, bless it for us and give us more of it), for nothing other than milk can fulfil the need for both food and drink."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you eats food, he should lick his fingers, for he does not know in which part of his food the blessing lies."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you eats, he should eat with his right hand, and when he drinks, he should drink with his right hand, for Satan eats with his left hand and drinks with his left hand."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you eats, he should eat with his right hand, drink with his right hand, take with his right hand and give with his right hand, for Satan eats with his left hand, drinks with his left hand, takes with his left hand and gives with his left hand."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the two circumcised parts meet, the ritual bath (ghusl) becomes obligatory."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the two circumcised parts meet and the glans (the head of the male organ) disappears, the ritual bath (ghusl) becomes obligatory, whether or not there is ejaculation."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When two Muslims face each other with their swords and one of them kills the other, then both the killer and the one killed will be in Hell. It was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, this outcome is fitting for the killer, but what is the fault of the one killed?' He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'He too was eager to kill his companion.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When two Muslims meet and one of them raises a weapon against his brother, they are both on the brink of Hell. Then if one of them kills the other, they both enter it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty puts into a man's heart the intention to propose marriage to a woman, there is no harm in his looking at her."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When pre-seminal fluid (madhi) comes out of any of you and he has not touched (a woman), he should wash his private part and his two testicles, then perform ablution and pray."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you leads the people in prayer, he should keep it light (short), for among them (those following) are the young and the old, the weak, the sick and those with needs. And when he prays by himself, he may lengthen it as much as he wishes."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man leads the people in prayer, he should not stand in a place higher than their (the followers') place."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you lead the people in prayer, recite (in the prayer) 'By the sun and its brightness' [Surah al-Shams: 1], 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High' [Surah al-A'la: 1] and 'By the night when it covers' [Surah al-Layl: 1]."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you lead a people in prayer, keep the prayer light (short) for them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the imam says Amin, you too say Amin, for whoever's Amin coincides with the Amin of the angels, his past sins are forgiven."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the reciter (the imam) says Amin, you too say Amin, for the angels also say Amin. So whoever's Amin coincides with the Amin of the angels, his past sins are forgiven."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When half of the month of Sha'ban has passed, do not fast until Ramadan comes."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you puts on his shoes, he should begin with the right foot, and when he takes them off, he should begin with the left foot, so that the right foot is the first to be shod and the last to be unshod."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you arrives at a gathering, if room is made for him, he should sit down; otherwise he should look for the most spacious place he can see and sit there."
