Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you cleans himself with stones (after relieving himself), let him use an odd number (i.e. one, three, five) of stones."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you purifies himself (after relieving himself), let him not purify himself with his right hand; rather, he should clean himself with his left hand."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a woman puts on perfume and then passes by people so that they may smell her fragrance, she is (in a sense) an adulteress."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you face the qiblah, say the takbir, then recite Surah al-Fatihah (Umm al-Qur'an), then recite whatever you wish. Then when you bow, place your palms on your knees, stretch your back out straight and perform your bowing with composure. Then when you raise your head, stand your back fully upright until all the bones return to their joints. Then when you prostrate, perform your prostration with composure. Then when you sit, sit on your left thigh. Then do the same in every rak'ah and every prostration."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you persists in his oath (and does not break it, even though breaking it would be better), this act of his is a greater cause of sin in the sight of Allah than the expiation he has been commanded to give."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you lies flat on his back, let him not place one foot on the other."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you draw water into your nose, blow it out; and when you clean yourself with stones, use an odd number."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a newborn child cries (i.e. is born alive), he becomes an heir."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you wakes from sleep, let him say: Al-hamdu lillahil-ladhi radda 'alayya ruhi wa 'afani fi jasadi wa adhina li bi-dhikrih (All praise is for Allah, who returned my soul to me, granted me well-being in my body and permitted me to remember Him)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you wakes from his sleep and performs ablution (wudu), let him blow out his nose three times, for Satan spends the night in the upper part of his nose (the upper part of the nostrils)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you wakes from his sleep and sees moisture but does not recall having had a wet dream, he should take a ritual bath (ghusl); and if he sees that he had a wet dream but does not see any moisture, then a ritual bath is not obligatory upon him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you wakes from his sleep, let him not put his hand into the vessel until he has washed it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you wakes from his sleep, let him not put his hand into the vessel until he has washed it three times, for none of you knows where his hand spent the night."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man wakes up at night and also wakes his wife, and they both pray two rak'ahs, they are recorded among the men and women who remember Allah abundantly."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you wake up (from sleep), pray."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man accepts Islam, he has the greatest right to his land and his wealth."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a servant accepts Islam and his Islam becomes excellent, Allah Almighty records for him every good deed he did before (in the state of disbelief), and every sin he committed before is erased from him. Then after that, the recompense (for good and bad deeds) is such that a good deed is rewarded with ten like it up to seven hundred times, and an evil deed is recompensed only with its equal, unless Allah Almighty overlooks it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a servant accepts Islam and his Islam becomes excellent, Allah Almighty erases from him every sin he committed before, and after that the recompense is such that a good deed is rewarded with ten like it up to seven hundred times, and an evil deed is recompensed with its equal, unless Allah Almighty overlooks it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man points a weapon at his (Muslim) brother, they are both on the brink of Hell; then if he kills him, they both fall into it (Hell) together."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the heat becomes intense, delay the prayer until it is cooler (i.e. pray it later), for the intensity of the heat is from the vapour of Hell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the heat becomes intense, delay the Zuhr prayer until it is cooler (pray it later), for the intensity of the heat is from the vapour of Hell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you buys a slave girl, let him say: Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma jabaltaha 'alayhi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha 'alayhi (O Allah, I ask You for her good and the good of the disposition upon which You have created her, and I seek refuge in You from her evil and the evil of the disposition upon which You have created her), and he should pray for blessing. And when one of you buys a camel, let him take hold of the top of its hump, pray for blessing and say similar words."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you buy something, do not sell it on until you have taken possession of it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a Muslim servant falls ill, Allah Almighty says to the angels who record deeds: 'Keep writing for him the best of the deeds he used to do when he was in good health, until I cure him (of this illness).'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the believer falls ill, (that illness) purifies him of sins just as the furnace removes the rust of iron and purifies it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the eyes of a person in the state of ihram become sore, let him apply a poultice of aloe (a herb called sabir) to them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you feel any pain, place your hand where you feel the pain, then say: Bismillah, a'udhu bi-'izzatillahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu min waja'i hadha (In the name of Allah, I seek refuge in the might of Allah and His power from the evil of the affliction I feel and of this pain of mine). Then lift your hand, and then repeat it an odd number of times (three, five or seven times)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a calamity befalls one of you, let him remember the calamity of (losing) me, for it is among the greatest of calamities (for the Ummah)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When grief or hardship and distress befalls one of you, let him say: Allahu Allahu rabbi la ushriku bihi shay'a (Allah, Allah is my Lord; I do not associate anything with Him)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a mukatab (a slave who has made a contract to pay a price for his freedom) becomes liable to a hadd (prescribed punishment) or receives an inheritance, he shall be given inheritance in proportion to the extent he has been freed, and the hadd shall be applied to him in proportion to the part of him that has been freed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the blood of menstruation gets on the garment of any of you women, she should scrape it off (with her fingers), then pour water over it, and then pray in that same garment."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the son of Adam wakes up in the morning, all the limbs of his body humble themselves before the tongue and say: 'Fear Allah concerning us, for our existence is bound up with you. If you stay straight, we will stay straight, and if you become crooked, we will become crooked.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you wakes up in the morning, he should say: 'Asbahna wa asbaha al-mulku lillahi rabbi al-'alamin. Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadha al-yawm, fathahu wa nasrahu wa nurahu wa barakatahu wa hudahu, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma fihi wa sharri ma qablahu wa sharri ma ba'dahu' (We have entered the morning, and the dominion of Allah, the Lord of all the worlds, has entered the morning. O Allah, I ask You for the good of this day: its victory, its help, its light, its blessing and its guidance; and I seek refuge in You from the evil that is in it, the evil that is before it and the evil that is after it). Then when he reaches the evening, he should say similar words."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you wakes up in the morning, he should say: 'Allahumma bika asbahna wa bika amsayna wa bika nahya wa bika namutu wa ilayka al-masir' (O Allah, by Your enabling we have reached the morning and by Your enabling we have reached the evening; by Your command we live and by Your command we die, and to You is the return). And when he reaches the evening, he should say: 'Allahumma bika amsayna wa bika asbahna wa bika nahya wa bika namutu wa ilayka al-nushur' (O Allah, by Your enabling we have reached the evening and by Your enabling we have reached the morning; by Your command we live and by Your command we die, and to You is the resurrection)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you wake up in the morning, say: 'Allahumma bika asbahna wa bika amsayna wa bika nahya wa bika namutu wa ilayka al-masir' (O Allah, by Your enabling we have reached the morning and by Your enabling we have reached the evening; by Your command we live and by Your command we die, and to You is the return)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When two Muslim men are walking together and a tree, a stone or a clod of earth comes between them (and they separate and then meet again), then one of them should greet the other with salam, and they should exchange greetings of salam with each other."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you has been away from home for a long time, he should not come to his family unexpectedly at night."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man gives another man safety and security, and then kills him after having reassured him, a banner of treachery will be raised for him (the killer) on the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty grants any of you good and plenty, he should begin (his spending) with himself and his household."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you are given something without having asked for it, eat from it and give (the remainder) in charity."
