Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you arrives at a gathering, let him give the greeting of peace (salam). Then, if he wishes to sit there, let him sit. Then, when he gets up to leave, let him give the greeting (again), for the first greeting is not more deserving (or more important) than the second."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty sends down a punishment upon a people, that punishment engulfs all those who are present among them; then (on the Day of Resurrection) they will be raised up each according to his own deeds."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man spends on his family with the intention of earning reward, it is counted as charity for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a woman spends from her husband's house without his instruction (that is, some ordinary charity in line with the usual custom), she too has half of his (the husband's) reward."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a woman spends from her husband's house without causing ruin (that is, with moderation), she has a reward for what she spent, her husband has a reward for what he earned, and the storekeeper (the one in charge) has the like of that as well; and none of them diminishes anything from the reward of the other."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the strap of one of you breaks, let him not walk in one sandal until he has mended his strap; and let him not walk in one leather sock (khuff), nor eat with his left hand, nor sit with his knees drawn up wrapped in a single garment (ihtiba'), nor wrap himself in the manner of as-samma' (a garment wrapped so that there is no opening for the hands to come out)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the strap of the sandal of one of you breaks, let him not walk in the other (single sandal) until he has mended it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you goes to his bed, let him dust it off with the inner edge of his lower garment (izar), for he does not know what may have come onto it (the bed) after he left it. Then let him lie on his right side and recite this supplication: Bismika rabbi wada'tu janbi wa bika arfa'uhu, in amsakta nafsi farhamha, wa in arsaltaha fahfazha bima tahfazu bihi 'ibadaka as-salihin (O my Lord, in Your name I have laid down my side, and by Your name I shall raise it up. If You take my soul, then have mercy on it, and if You release it, then protect it as You protect Your righteous servants)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a woman spends the night having deserted her husband's bed (in anger), the angels keep cursing her until morning."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you sells a goat or a milch she-camel, let him not (with the aim of deceiving) keep the milk held back in its udders."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you urinates, let him not touch his private part with his right hand; when he goes to the toilet, let him not clean himself (istinja') with his right hand; and when he drinks (something), let him not breathe into the vessel."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you buy and sell, say: 'There must be no deception (with me).'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the edge of the sun begins to rise, delay the prayer until it has fully appeared; and when the edge of the sun begins to set, delay the prayer until it has fully set."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you send a man to me (as an envoy), send one with a handsome face and a good name."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man of my Ummah reaches the age of sixty years, Allah Almighty has left him no excuse in the matter of his lifespan."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty lets a servant reach the age of sixty years, He has left him no excuse and has given him ample respite in his lifespan."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When water reaches the quantity of two qullahs (a specific measure), it does not take on the effect of impurity."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When water reaches the quantity of two qullahs, nothing can make it impure."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When your children reach seven years of age, separate their beds; and when they reach ten years of age, beat them over (not performing) the prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Banu Abi al-As reach thirty men in number, they will take the servants of Allah as their slaves, the wealth of Allah as their personal estate (circulating only among the rich), and the Book of Allah as a means of deception and fraud."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you reach Hayya 'ala al-falah (in the Fajr call to prayer), then (after it) say: As-salatu khayrun min an-nawm (Prayer is better than sleep)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the pledge of allegiance is given to two caliphs (at the same time), kill the latter (the second) of the two."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When two men engage in a sale with each other, each of them has the option (to cancel the deal) as long as they have not separated and are together, or one of them gives the other the option. If one gives the other the option and they conclude the sale on that basis, the sale becomes binding. And if they separate after having concluded the sale and neither of them has abandoned the sale, the sale also becomes binding."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you deal in 'inah transactions (a form of usury), take hold of the tails of cattle (that is, become absorbed in tending livestock), become content with farming, and abandon jihad, Allah Almighty will impose upon you a humiliation which He will not remove until you return (fully) to your religion."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you follow a funeral procession, do not sit until it has been placed (on the ground)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you yawns, let him hold it back as much as he can, for when one of you says 'Ha' (making a sound while yawning), Satan laughs at him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you yawns, let him place his hand over his mouth, for Satan enters (into the mouth) with the yawn."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you yawns during the prayer, let him suppress it as much as he can, for Satan enters (through the open mouth)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you marries, let this supplication be said to him: Barakallahu laka wa baraka 'alayka (May Allah bless you and send down blessing upon you)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man marries a virgin while he already has a previously married woman (as wife), he should stay with her (the virgin) for seven days; and when he marries a previously married woman while he has a virgin (as wife), he should stay with her for three days."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a servant marries, he has completed half of his religion, so let him fear Allah (adopt taqwa) regarding the remaining half."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you name (yourselves) after my name, do not take my kunyah as your kunyah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you recites the tashahhud (in the prayer), let him seek refuge from four things: from the punishment of Hell, from the punishment of the grave, from the trial of life and death, and from the evil of the False Messiah (al-Masih ad-Dajjal); then after that let him supplicate for himself with whatever he wishes."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When two Muslims shake hands with each other, they are forgiven before their hands separate."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man purifies himself and then goes to the mosque with the intention of praying, his recorder (angel) writes for him ten good deeds for every step he takes towards the mosque. The one who sits waiting for the prayer is like one engaged in devout worship, and he is counted among those praying from the time he leaves his house until he returns to it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When two men come to you for judgement, do not judge in favour of the first until you have also heard what the other has to say; (by doing so) you will know well how to judge."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty speaks through revelation, the angels of the lowest heaven hear a clanging like a chain being dragged over a smooth rock, and they fall unconscious. They remain in that state until Jibril (peace be upon him) comes to them. Then, when Jibril reaches them, the terror is removed from their hearts and they ask: 'O Jibril, what has your Lord said?' He answers: 'He has spoken the truth.' Then all those angels also call out: 'He has spoken the truth, He has spoken the truth.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you wishes (to receive something from Allah), let him wish for much, for he is asking only of his Lord."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you spits (or expels phlegm) (in the mosque or in prayer), let him by no means spit in front of his face, nor to his right side; rather, let him spit to his left side or under his left foot."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you is in the mosque and spits out phlegm, let him conceal his phlegm (that is, bury it in the earth), so that it does not get on the skin or the clothing of a believer and cause him harm."
