Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"On behalf of every free person and slave, young and old, pay (as Sadaqat al-Fitr) one sa' of wheat between two people (that is, half a sa' per person), or one sa' of dates, or one sa' of barley."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, pay one sa' of food grain (as Sadaqat al-Fitr)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Allah Almighty admitted into Paradise a man who was gentle and generous when buying, when selling, when judging and when asking for his due."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Call upon your Lord who, if some harm touches you and you call upon Him, will remove it from you; and if you lose your way in a desolate, barren land and you call upon Him, will return you to your destination; and if a year of drought befalls you and you call upon Him, will cause grain and vegetation to grow for you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Supplicate to Allah Almighty while being fully certain of a response, and know that Allah Almighty does not answer a supplication that comes from a heedless and careless heart."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Invite people (to the religion), give glad tidings and do not drive them away; make things easy for them and do not make things difficult."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Call your father Abu Bakr and your brother so that I may write a document, for I fear that someone may wish (for it) and someone may say: 'I am more entitled (to the caliphate),' whereas Allah Almighty and the believers refuse to accept anyone other than Abu Bakr."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Hand her (the girl) over to her maternal aunt, for the maternal aunt holds the position of a mother."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Bury the martyrs in the very places where they were martyred."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Bring the orphan close to you, treat him with kindness, pass your hand over his head and feed him from your food, for this will surely soften your heart and be a means of fulfilling your need."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O my son, come closer, mention the name of Allah (say Bismillah), eat with your right hand and eat from what is in front of you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The person with the lightest punishment among the people of Hell will be the one who is made to wear two sandals of fire, from whose heat his brain will boil."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Perform Hajj and Umrah one after the other, for they both remove poverty and sins just as the furnace removes the rust and dross of iron."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty grants you wealth, then the effect of Allah's blessing and His favour and generosity should be visible on you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty grants you wealth, its effect should be visible on you, for Allah Almighty loves that the good effect of the blessing He has given be seen on His servant, and He dislikes wretchedness and deliberately making oneself appear wretched."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty grants you some wealth which you did not ask for and which your heart did not covet, then accept it, for it is only provision that Allah Almighty has sent your way."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you buy food grain, do not sell it on until you have taken full possession of it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Allah Almighty afflicts a Muslim servant with an illness in his body, Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says (to the angels): 'Keep recording for him the good deeds (he used to do while healthy).' Then, if Allah cures him, He washes him clean of sins and purifies him, and if He takes his soul, He forgives him and has mercy on him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you send a messenger to me, send someone who has a handsome face and a good name."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a slave runs away (from his master), none of his prayers is accepted."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you comes to the prayer and the imam is in whatever position, he should do just as the imam is doing."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you goes to relieve himself, he should neither face the qiblah nor turn his back towards it; rather, he should face east or west."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you comes to his wife (has intercourse) and then intends to do so again, he should perform ablution."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the servant of any of you brings him his food, having already borne the toil of cooking it and the discomfort of its smoke, he should seat him with himself; and if he cannot seat him with himself, he should at least give him a morsel or two of it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you comes to a herd of livestock, if their owner is present there, he should ask his permission; if he gives him permission, he may milk and drink. And if no one is present there, he should call out three times; then if anyone answers, he should ask his permission, and if no one answers, he may milk and drink, but he should not carry any away with him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man comes to a people and they say 'welcome' to him, there will be a welcome for him too on the Day of Resurrection, when he meets his Lord. And if a man comes to a people and they say words of rebuke and rejection to him, then on the Day of Resurrection there will be rejection and rebuke for him too."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a beggar comes to you, be sure to put something in his hand, even if it is only a burnt hoof."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the zakah collector comes to you, (let it be that) he returns from you in a state of being pleased with you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the honoured man of a people comes to you, show him honour and respect."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When someone whose character and religious commitment satisfy you comes to you (asking for a marriage proposal), marry (your daughters) to him. If you do not do so, there will be great tribulation in the land and widespread corruption."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the garment is wide, wrap it around your shoulders and then pray; and if it is too narrow for that, tie it around your waist and pray without an upper wrap."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you come to the prayer, come with dignity and tranquillity; then pray whatever (of the prayer with the imam) you catch, and make up (afterwards) whatever you have missed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you come to your wife (for intercourse), act with wisdom (and refinement)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you pass by a camel herder, call out three times: 'O camel herder!' If he answers you (then ask his permission); otherwise, milk and drink, but do not spoil (it). And when you come to an orchard, call out three times: 'O owner of the orchard!' If he answers you (then well and good); otherwise, eat, but do not cause any damage."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you come to the prayer, you must keep to calmness and tranquillity, and do not come running. Then pray whatever rak'ahs you catch, and complete whatever you have missed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you come to your bed, perform ablution as you do for prayer, then lie down on your right side, then say this supplication: 'Allahumma aslamtu wajhi ilayka, wa fawwadtu amri ilayka, wa alja'tu zahri ilayka, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayka, la malja'a wa la manja minka illa ilayka, amantu bi-kitabika alladhi anzalta wa bi-nabiyyika alladhi arsalta' (O Allah, I have submitted my face to You, entrusted my affair to You and placed my back under Your protection, out of hope for Your mercy and fear of Your punishment. There is no place of refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed and in Your Prophet whom You sent). Then if you die that very night, you will die upon the natural religion (Islam). And make these words the last thing you say."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When your neighbours praise you, saying that you are a doer of good, then you truly are a doer of good; and when your neighbours say of you that you are a wrongdoer, then you certainly are a wrongdoer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you perfume the deceased with incense, do so three times."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you loves his (Muslim) brother, he should tell him that he loves him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When any of you loves one of his brothers for the sake of Allah, he should tell him, for it is something that better preserves mutual affection and more firmly strengthens love."
