A man narrates: We had loaded up some goods for Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him), intending to give them to him. When we came to al-Rabadhah and asked about him, we did not find him, and we were told that he had gone for Hajj. So we came to the town, that is, Mina. Once, while we were with him, he was told: "Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) has prayed four rak'ahs." He expressed strong displeasure at this and said harsh words about it, and he stated: "I prayed behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs; and I prayed behind Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) (and they too prayed only two rak'ahs)." Then Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and prayed four rak'ahs. It was said to him: "You objected to the Commander of the Believers about this earlier, and then you did the same thing yourself?" He said: "Disagreeing (with the ruler of the time) is more serious. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed us and said: 'After me there will be rulers; do not humiliate them. Whoever intends to humiliate them has removed the collar of Islam from his neck. The repentance of such a person will not be accepted until he fills the breach he has made, and he will not be able to do so, and then he comes back and joins those who support that ruler.' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us that we should not be overpowered in three things: that we enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and teach the people the Sunnahs."

The people said: "This is Sayyiduna Amr al-Bikali (may Allah be pleased with him), whose hand was lost in the Battle of Yarmuk." That was on the occasion when the Romans were driven out of Syria. The narrator says: I heard him narrating that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: after this the narrator mentioned the narration as before. The chain of this narration contains one narrator, Mujja'ah bin al-Zubayr al-Ataki, whom Imam Ahmad declared thiqah (trustworthy), while others declared him da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We said: "O Messenger of Allah! We are not asking you about obeying one who is God-fearing and acts righteously, but about one who does such and such" (he mentioned evil) (what are we to do about him?). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Fear Allah Almighty, and listen and obey."
This narration has been recorded by Imam al-Tabarani. Its chain contains one narrator, Uthman bin Qays, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Arfajah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "The hand of Allah Almighty's mercy is with the Jama'ah (the united community), and Satan is with the one who separates from them, and he kicks him along."
This narration has been recorded by Imam al-Tabarani, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Zirr bin Hubaysh narrates: When the people objected to the conduct of al-Walid bin Uqbah bin Abi Mu'ayt, they hurried in alarm to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Be patient, for your ruler's oppression for fifty years is better than a single month of killing and turmoil. The reason is that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: 'People must have a ruler, whether he is righteous or sinful. If he is righteous, does justice in distribution and divides your fay' (spoils) among you equally, then well and good; and if he is sinful, then the believer will be put to trial under his rule. And bad rule is better than harj.' It was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah! What is meant by harj?' He said: 'Killing and lying.'"
This narration has been recorded by Imam al-Tabarani. Its chain contains one narrator, Wahbullah bin Rizq, and I do not know him; the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once he was among some Companions when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to them. He said: "Do you not know that I am the Messenger of Allah to you?" We said: "Yes, you are the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you not know that whoever obeys me has obeyed Allah Almighty, for obeying me is part of obeying Allah Almighty?" The people said: "Yes, we bear witness that whoever obeys Allah Almighty will obey you as well, and obeying you is part of obeying Allah Almighty." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Part of obeying Allah Almighty is that you obey me, and part of obeying me is that you obey your commanders (umara'). Obey your commanders; if they pray sitting, then you too should pray sitting."
This narration has been recorded by Imam Abu Ya'la. Imam Ahmad recorded a similar narration in abridged form; however, he narrated the word "a'immah" (leaders) in place of the word "umara'" (commanders).

It is reported about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "O people, it is incumbent on you to hold to obedience and to stay with the Jama'ah (the united community), for it is the rope of Allah Almighty which Allah Almighty has commanded. What you dislike in the Jama'ah is better than what you like in separation."
This narration has been mentioned by Imam al-Tabarani within a long hadith which will come later in the Book of Trials (Fitan), if Allah wills. Its chain contains one narrator, Thabit bin Qutbah, whom I do not know; the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).
