Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When one of you buys a slave girl, let the first thing he feeds her be something sweet, for it is more wholesome for her."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and the lowest grade of its chain is hasan (good).

Feed them from what you eat and clothe them from what you wear. If they commit a wrong that you cannot forgive, then sell the servants of Allah, and do not torment them."

Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A person who does not treat slaves well will not enter Paradise." A man said: O Messenger of Allah, did you not tell us that this Ummah will have more slaves and orphans than all other nations? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes. So honour them as you honour your own children, and feed them from what you eat." They said: O Messenger of Allah, what of this world benefits us? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A horse that you keep tied, on which you ride and fight in the path of Allah, and a slave who does your work for you. When he prays, he is your brother; when he prays, he is your brother." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Al-Tirmidhi and others recorded part of this narration.

Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) stated: My last meeting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was five days before his passing. I heard him say: "Every prophet has had a close friend (khalil) from among his Ummah, and my close friend is Abu Bakr bin Abi Quhafah; but Allah Almighty has taken your master as His close friend. Beware! The nations before you took the graves of their prophets as places of prostration, and I forbid you from that. O Allah, have I conveyed (the message)?" He said this three times. Then he said: "O Allah, bear witness!" He said this three times. Then he fainted for a short while, then he said: "Fear Allah, fear Allah, regarding those under your ownership. Keep their stomachs full, keep their bodies covered, and speak gently to them."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ubaydullah bin Zahr and Ali bin Yazid; both are da'if (weak), though both have been declared trustworthy.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, give us a servant. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take whichever of the two you wish." He said: You choose one for me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take this one, and do not beat him, for I saw him praying on our return from Khaybar, and I have been forbidden to beat those who pray." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a slave to Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "Accept the instruction to treat him well." So Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him) set him free. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "What has become of the slave?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, you commanded me to accept the instruction to treat him well, so I set him free.

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr al-Ghifari had a garment; he tore it, made half of it into a waist-wrap, and gave the other half to the slave. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why do I see your garment like this?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, you said: "Feed him from what you eat and clothe him from what you wear." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." I said: I have set him free. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr, Allah Almighty will reward you." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us to call them (and feed them with us), and if one of us dislikes eating with him, he should place the food in the (servant's) hand.
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir; its chain is hasan (good).
