Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a servant falls ill or goes on a journey, Allah Almighty records for him a reward equal to the (good) deeds he used to do while healthy and resident."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a servant falls ill, Allah Almighty says to the Kiraman Katibin (the noble angels who record deeds): 'Keep writing for My servant a reward like that of the deeds he used to do (while healthy), until I take his soul or grant him recovery.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When my Ummah walks with a swagger (out of arrogance) and the sons of kings, that is, the princes of Persia and Rome, serve them, then the worst of the Ummah will be given power over its best."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When half of the night or two thirds of it has passed, Allah Almighty descends to the lowest heaven and says: 'Is there anyone asking, that he may be given? Is there anyone supplicating, that his supplication may be answered? Is there anyone seeking forgiveness, that he may be forgiven?' (Allah Almighty continues to call out in this way) until the true dawn breaks."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the caller (the mu'adhdhin) calls the adhan, the gates of heaven are opened and supplication is answered."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you goes to sleep with the grease (or smell) of meat on his hand and has not washed his hand, and then some harm befalls him, let him blame no one but himself."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you stops at a place to camp, let him say: 'A'udhu bi-kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq' (I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created), and nothing will harm him until he departs from that place."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you forgets to mention the name of Allah over his food and then remembers, let him say: 'Bismillahi awwalahu wa akhirahu' (In the name of Allah at its beginning and its end)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you forgets a prayer or sleeps through it, let him pray it when he remembers it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you looks at someone who has been given more than him in wealth and physical form (or status), let him also look at someone who is below him (in these things)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you becomes drowsy while sitting in the mosque, let him get up from that place and move to another."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you becomes drowsy while praying, let him sleep until his sleepiness leaves him, for when one of you prays while drowsy, he does not know; perhaps instead of asking for forgiveness he may (by mistake) end up cursing himself."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you becomes drowsy during the prayer, let him leave the prayer and sleep until he understands what he is saying."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you becomes drowsy on Friday, let him move to his companion's seat, and let his companion move to his seat."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man becomes drowsy while praying, let him leave the prayer, lest he end up supplicating against himself without realising it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a slave marries without the permission of his master, his marriage is void."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you go to sleep, put out the lamp, for the mouse drags away the (burning) wick and burns the people of the house. Also, close the doors, tie up the mouths of the waterskins and cover the drinks."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you go to sleep, put out your lamps, for Satan guides things like this (mouse) to this (burning lamp), and so it burns you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the call to prayer is made, Satan turns his back and flees, breaking wind, so that he does not hear the adhan. Then when the adhan is finished he comes back, until when the iqamah for the prayer is called he again turns his back and flees. And when the iqamah is finished he comes back again, until he comes between a person and his heart, casting whispers and saying: 'Remember such-and-such, remember such-and-such,' that is, things he had not remembered before, until the person no longer knows how many rak'ahs he has prayed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the adhan is called for prayer, the gates of heaven are opened and supplication is answered."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a donkey brays, seek refuge with Allah from Satan the accursed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you feels pain, let him place his hand where he feels the pain and say seven times: 'A'udhu bi-'izzatillahi wa qudratihi 'ala kulli shay'in min sharri ma ajid' (I seek refuge in the might of Allah and His power over all things from the evil of the pain I feel)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you finds that, meaning madhi (sees it coming out), let him wash his private part and perform ablution like the ablution done for prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you feels some disturbance in his stomach and is in doubt whether something (wind) has come out of him or not, let him not leave the mosque at all until he hears a sound or perceives a smell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you, during his prayer, perceives the sound of passing wind or a disturbance in his stomach, let him withdraw (from the prayer) and perform ablution."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a woman sees in a dream what a man sees (that is, she has a wet dream), then taking a ritual bath (ghusl) is obligatory upon her."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you weigh (something), weigh so that the scale tips (that is, give a little extra)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When affairs are entrusted to those who are unfit for them, then wait for the Hour."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you places in front of him (for prayer) something the size of the back post of a camel saddle (as a sutrah), let him pray and not mind who passes beyond that (sutrah)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the sword is placed among my Ummah (that is, when killing among themselves begins), it will not be lifted from them until the Day of Resurrection."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the food is laid out, eat from the edges of the dish and leave its middle, for blessing descends in the middle of the dish."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the bier is made ready and set down, and men lift it onto their shoulders, then if the deceased was righteous it says: 'Take me forward quickly,' and if it was not righteous it cries out to its family: 'Oh, woe to it! Where are you taking it?' Everything hears its voice except man, and if man were to hear that voice he would fall down unconscious."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the evening meal of one of you has been brought and set down and the iqamah for the prayer has also been called, eat first, and do not hasten (to go to the prayer) until you have finished eating."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you lower your dead into their graves, recite this supplication: 'Bismillahi wa 'ala sunnati Rasulillah' (In the name of Allah and upon the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you treads on some filth with his shoes, then indeed the (clean) earth (of the road) purifies it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a person treads on some filth with his leather socks, then what purifies them both is earth."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a fly falls into the vessel of one of you, let him immerse it (completely in the drink), for in one of its wings there is disease and in the other there is cure. And when it falls it puts forward the very wing that carries the disease, so let him immerse it completely and then take it out and throw it away."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a fly falls into the vessel of one of you, let him dip it thoroughly into it (the drink), for in one of its wings there is poison and in the other there is cure. And it puts the wing with the poison forward and keeps the wing with the cure back."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a fly falls into the drink of one of you, let him immerse it and then take it out, for in one of its wings there is disease and in the other there is cure."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the boundaries of the property have been marked out and the paths have been separated, then the right of pre-emption (shuf'ah) no longer remains."
