Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a man enters his house, let him recite this supplication: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayral-mawlaji wa khayral-makhraji, bismillahi walajna wa bismillahi kharajna wa 'alallahi rabbina tawakkalna' (O Allah, I ask You for the good of entering and the good of leaving. In the name of Allah we have entered, and in the name of Allah we have left, and upon Allah, our Lord, we have relied). After that, let him greet his family with salam."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a dog laps from a vessel, wash it seven times, and the eighth time scrub it well with earth."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a dog laps from the vessel of one of you, let him pour out (what is in it) and then wash it seven times."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a dog laps from the vessel of one of you, let him wash it seven times."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When a dog laps from the vessel of one of you, let him wash it seven times, the first of them with earth."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you takes charge of preparing and shrouding his brother, let him shroud him in a good shroud."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you takes charge of preparing and shrouding his brother, let him shroud him in a good shroud, for they (the dead) will be raised in their shrouds and will visit one another in those very shrouds."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Chosroes perishes, there will be no Chosroes after him, and when Caesar perishes, there will be no Caesar after him. By the One in whose Hand is my soul, you will certainly spend the treasures of these two (kings) in the way of Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When one of you intends to do some (important) matter, let him pray two rak'ahs other than the obligatory prayer, then let him supplicate: 'Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi-'ilmika wa astaqdiruka bi-qudratika wa as'aluka min fadlikal-'azim, fa-innaka taqdiru wa la aqdiru wa ta'lamu wa la a'lamu wa anta 'allamul-ghuyub. Allahumma fa-in kunta ta'lamu hadhal-amra (and he names it) khayran li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa 'aqibati amri faqdurhu li wa yassirhu li thumma barik li fihi. Allahumma wa in kunta ta'lamuhu sharran li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa 'aqibati amri fasrifni 'anhu wasrifhu 'anni waqdur liyal-khayra haythu kana thumma raddini bihi' (O Allah, I seek good from You by means of Your knowledge, and I ask You for strength by means of Your power, and I ask You of Your immense bounty, for You have power and I have none, You know and I do not know, and You are the Knower of all things unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter (here he names the matter) is good for me in my religion, my worldly affairs, my life and my final outcome, then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and then bless me in it. And O Allah, if You know that this matter is bad for me in my religion, my worldly affairs and my final outcome, then turn me away from it and turn it away from me, and decree good for me wherever it may be, and then make me pleased with it)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Slaughter for the sake of Allah in whatever month it may be, do good deeds for Allah, and feed people."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Remember death in your prayer, for when a man remembers death in his prayer, it is very likely that he will perform his prayer well. And pray the prayer of a man who is not certain that he will pray any other prayer after it (that is, consider it the last prayer of your life). And guard yourself against every deed for which one has to make an apology."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Announce among the people that whoever (has eaten or drunk something) should remain like those who are fasting for the rest of his day, and whoever has not yet eaten anything should fast, for today is the day of Ashura."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Announce among the people that whoever bears witness with sincerity of heart that there is no true god except Allah, He is alone and He has no partner, will enter Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The sign of my permission for you to come in is that the curtain is raised and that you can hear my voice (or my private talk), until I forbid you from it (at some particular time)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I have been permitted to tell about one of the angels who carry the Throne: his feet are in the lowest earth and the Throne is upon his horn (head), and the distance between the lobe of his ear and his shoulder is as much as a flying bird covers in seven hundred years. And that angel keeps repeating this glorification: "Subhanaka haythu kunta" (You are free of all imperfection, O Allah, wherever You are)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I have been permitted to tell about one of the angels of Allah Almighty who carry the Throne: the distance between the lobe of his ear and his shoulder is a journey of seven hundred years."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Recite this supplication: "Adhhibil-ba'sa Rabban-nas, ishfi Antash-Shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uka, shifa'an la yughadiru saqaman" (O Lord of the people, remove this affliction and grant healing; You are the Healer, there is no healing except Your healing; grant a healing that leaves behind no illness of any kind)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Both of you go and make every effort (to reach what is right), then divide (the shares) by casting lots, and then let each of you ask his companion for pardon and so make (the matter) lawful."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Take these two sandals of mine, and whoever you meet behind this garden who bears witness, with firm certainty in his heart, that there is no true god except Allah, give him the glad tidings of Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Go and take a ritual bath (ghusl) with water and lote-tree leaves, and shave off from your body the hair of (the time of) disbelief."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Go and look at her (the woman you wish to marry), for doing so is more likely to create love and harmony between the two of you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Go, in that house there are three people, among whom is a slave boy who has prayed. Take him, and do not beat him, for we have been forbidden from beating those who pray."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Go, I have given her to you in marriage on the basis of the Qur'an that you have (memorised)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Go and tell your master (Badhan, the governor of Yemen) that my Lord has killed his lord, that is, Kisra, tonight."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Take this (leftover ablution) water, then when you reach your town, demolish your church (or temple), sprinkle this water on its site, and make it a mosque."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Take this embroidered cloak to Abu Jahm bin Hudhayfah and bring me his coarse (plain) cloak, for this (embroidered cloak) distracted me in my prayer just now."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Take him, that is, Abu Quhafah, to one of his wives so that she may change the colour of his (hair) with something (a dye), but keep him away from black."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"My view is that you should distribute it (this garden) among your close relatives (as charity)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I see that your dreams (concerning Laylat al-Qadr) have agreed on the last seven nights, so whoever is seeking it (Laylat al-Qadr) should seek it in the last seven nights (of Ramadan)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The most compassionate of my Ummah towards my Ummah is Abu Bakr, the sternest (firmest) in the matter of Allah's religion is Umar, the one among them with the truest modesty is Uthman, the best of them in giving judgement is Ali, the greatest expert in the knowledge of inheritance shares (fara'id) is Zayd bin Thabit, the best reciter among them is Ubayy bin Ka'b, and the most knowledgeable about the lawful and the unlawful is Mu'adh bin Jabal. Behold! Indeed every Ummah has a trustworthy one, and the trustworthy one of this Ummah is Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Tonight I saw myself (in a dream) near the Ka'bah, and I saw a man of wheat-brown complexion, the most handsome of wheat-brown men you could ever see. He had hair reaching down to his earlobes, the most beautiful of such hair; he had combed it and water was dripping from it. He was leaning on two men and performing tawaf around the House. I asked: Who is this? I was told: This is the Messiah, son of Maryam (peace be upon them both). Then suddenly I saw a man with extremely curly hair, blind in his right eye, as if it were a protruding (swollen) grape. I asked: Who is this? I was told: This is the Messiah, the Dajjal."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I saw in a dream that I was cleaning my teeth with a miswak, then two men came to me, one of them older than the other. I handed the miswak to the younger of them, and it was said to me: Give it to the older one. So I gave that miswak to the older of them."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Do you see this night of yours? At the completion of one hundred years from tonight, not a single one of those who are on the face of the earth will remain alive."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The worst degree of usury (riba) is attacking people's honour (without right) (by speaking against them)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There are four traits which, if they are found in you, then you have no cause for regret (loss) over whatever of this world passes you by: speaking the truth, safeguarding trusts, having good character, and purity in one's sustenance (food and drink) (taking care that it is lawful)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Four phrases are the best of speech, and there is no harm in whichever of them you begin with: "Subhan Allah" (Glory be to Allah), "Al-hamdu lillah" (All praise is for Allah), "La ilaha illallah" (There is no god but Allah) and "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Four things of the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) have remained in my Ummah which people will not abandon: boasting about one's lineage, taunting the lineage of others, seeking rain from the stars, and wailing over the dead. And indeed, the wailing woman, if she does not repent before her death, will come on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of sulphur (tar) and a shirt of flames of fire."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Four of the rivers of Paradise (among the waters sent into the world) are these: Sayhan, Jayhan, the Nile and the Euphrates."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There are four people whose reward continues for them even after death: the one who died guarding the frontiers (ribat) in the path of Allah; the one who taught someone (religious) knowledge, for as long as that knowledge is acted upon he will continue to receive its reward; the one who gave some charity, for as long as that charity remains (as ongoing charity) he will continue to receive its reward; and the one who left behind a righteous child who supplicates (for forgiveness) for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There are four (kinds of) dinars (that are spent): a dinar you gave to a poor person, a dinar you spent on freeing a slave, a dinar you spent in the path of Allah (for jihad), and a dinar you spent on your family. The best of them all (and the most rewarding) is the dinar you spent on your family."
