People will sell their religion for a paltry worldly gain, and the one who holds fast to his religion will be like one holding an ember in his fist (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the wording is:) holding thorns." Sayyiduna Utbah bin Ghazwan (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions, narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After you there will come days of patience, and in those days the one who holds firmly to the religion will receive a reward like the reward of fifty of you. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! Will those (fifty) be from among them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No! Rather (those fifty) will be from among you.
