Sayyiduna Utbah bin Ghazwan (may Allah be pleased with him), who was one of the Companions, narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After you there will come days of patience, and in those days the one who holds firmly to the religion will receive a reward like the reward of fifty of you. The people said: O Messenger of Allah! Will those (fifty) be from among them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No! Rather (those fifty) will be from among you. The people said: O Prophet of Allah! Will those (fifty) be from among them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No! Rather from among you." This exchange took place three or perhaps four times.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, from his teacher Bakr bin Sahl, from Abdullah bin Yusuf; both of them have been declared thiqah (trustworthy), and there is disagreement about both of them.
