Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The greatest miser among people is the one who is miserly with the greeting of salam, and the most helpless of people is the one who is too helpless to make supplication (du'a)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Ibrahim is my son, and he has died at the age of suckling. Now in Paradise he has two wet-nurses who will complete his period of suckling."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) made the House of Allah sacred and a place of security, and I have declared Madinah sacred between its two lava plains: its thorny trees are not to be cut and its game is not to be hunted."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) declared Makkah a sanctuary, and I have declared it (Madinah) a sanctuary between its two lava plains."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) made Makkah sacred and supplicated for it, and I have made Madinah sacred just as Ibrahim made Makkah sacred, and I have supplicated for (blessing in) its mudd and sa' (measures) just as Ibrahim supplicated for Makkah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown into the fire, there was no creature on the face of the earth that was not extinguishing the fire, except the gecko, for it was blowing on the fire."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the greatest act of righteousness is that a man treats his father's friends kindly after the father has gone (passed away)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Iblis places his throne upon the water and then sends out his troops. The closest of them to him in rank is the one who causes the greatest mischief. One of them comes and says: 'I did such-and-such,' and Iblis says: 'You have done nothing.' Then another of them comes and says: 'I did not leave him until I had caused separation between him and his wife.' Then Iblis brings him close to himself and says: 'Yes, you (have done a great job)!'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the son of Adam feels heat, he says: 'Ouch!' and when he feels cold, he says: 'Ouch!'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, this son of mine (Hasan) is a sayyid (leader), and it is hoped that Allah Almighty will bring about reconciliation through him between two great groups of the Muslims."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, these two sons of mine (Hasan and Husayn) are my two flowers in this world."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the gates of Paradise are beneath the shade of swords."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the sin of usury (riba) has seventy-two (72) doors; the least of them in degree is like a person committing adultery with his own mother in Islam."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the gates of heaven are opened as soon as the sun passes its zenith, and they are not closed until the Zuhr prayer has been prayed, so I love that a good deed of mine should ascend through them (while they are open)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the one among you who fears Allah the most and knows Allah better than all of you is I."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the most beloved of your names to Allah Almighty are Abdullah and Abdur-Rahman."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the most beloved of you to me and the closest to my gathering in the Hereafter will be those of you who are best in character; and the most hateful of you to me and the farthest from me in the Hereafter will be those of you who are worst in character: those who talk excessively, those who speak with arrogance and wide-open mouths, and the chatterers."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Uhud is a mountain that loves us and we love it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when any one of you stands in his prayer, he is conversing intimately with his Lord, and his Lord is between him and the qiblah, so let none of you ever spit towards his qiblah; rather, let him spit to his left or beneath his foot."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when any one of you stands to pray, he converses intimately with his Lord, so let him consider how he is conversing with Him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when any one of you stands to pray, Satan comes and confuses him with whisperings until he does not know how many rak'ahs he has prayed. So when any of you experiences that, let him perform two prostrations (of forgetfulness) while sitting."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when any one of you is in prayer, Allah Almighty is in front of his face, so let none of you ever spit (or clear his throat) in front of his face (that is, towards the qiblah) during prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when any one of you is in his prayer, he is conversing intimately with his Lord, so let him never spit in front of him nor to his right, but rather to his left and beneath his foot."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Satan comes to one of you and says: 'Who created you?' He answers: 'Allah.' Then he (Satan) says: 'Then who created Allah?' So when any one of you experiences this (whispering), let him say: 'Amantu billahi wa rasulihi' (I believe in Allah and His Messenger), for saying this will drive it (the whispering) away from him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the creation of each one of you is gathered in his mother's womb for forty days in the form of a drop of fluid (nutfah); then for the same number of days it remains a clot of blood ('alaqah); then for the same number of days it remains a lump of flesh (mudghah). Then Allah Almighty sends to it an angel who is commanded with four things, and it is said to him: 'Write down his deeds, his provision, his appointed time of death (lifespan), and whether he will be wretched or blessed.' Then the soul is breathed into it. So indeed, a man among you keeps doing the deeds of the people of Paradise until there remains between him and Paradise only the distance of an arm's length, then what has been written overtakes him, and he begins doing the deeds of the people of Hell and enters Hell. And indeed, a man keeps doing the deeds of the people of Hell until there remains between him and Hell only the distance of an arm's length, then what has been written overtakes him, and he begins doing the deeds of the people of Paradise and enters Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the noble lineage of the people of this world is this wealth towards which they rush (that is, the people of the world regard wealth alone as the standard of honour and nobility)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, when a man returns from a journey, the best time for him to come to his family is the early part of the night."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the best of the things with which you change this whiteness of old age (white hair) are henna and katam (a kind of plant whose dye is a blackish red)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the condition most deserving of being fulfilled by you is that through which you made private parts lawful for yourselves (that is, the conditions of marriage)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the thing most deserving of your taking a wage for it is the Book of Allah (that is, taking a wage for teaching the Qur'an or for performing ruqyah with it)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, your brother al-Najashi has passed away, so stand and offer the funeral prayer for him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, your brother is held back (from entering Paradise) because of his debt, so pay it off on his behalf."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, what I fear most for my Ummah is misguiding leaders."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, what I fear most for my Ummah is the deed of the people of Lut (homosexuality)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, what I fear most for my Ummah in its last age is the stars (belief in their influence), denial of divine decree (qadar), and the injustice of the ruler."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, what I fear most for my Ummah is every hypocrite who is highly skilled with his tongue (smooth-tongued)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, what I fear most for you is the lesser shirk, that is, showing off (riya'). On the Day of Resurrection, when people are recompensed for their deeds, Allah Almighty will say: 'Go to those for whom you used to show off in the world, then see whether you find any reward with them.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, what I fear most for you after me is every hypocrite who is very smooth-tongued."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the one of lowest rank among the people of Paradise will be a man whose face Allah Almighty turns away from the Fire towards Paradise. A shady tree will be made to appear before him, and he will say: 'O my Lord, bring me near this tree so that I may be in its shade.' Allah Almighty will say: 'Is it not likely that, if I give you this, you will ask Me for something else?' He will say: 'No, by Your Might!' So Allah Almighty will bring him near it. Then another tree, shady and bearing fruit, will be made to appear before him, and he will say: 'O my Lord, bring me near this tree so that I may be in its shade and eat of its fruit.' Allah Almighty will say: 'Is it not likely that, if I grant you this, you will ask Me for something else?' He will say: 'No, by Your Might!' So Allah Almighty will bring him near it. Then Allah Almighty will make another tree appear before him, shady, bearing fruit and with water (a spring), and he will say: 'O my Lord, bring me near this tree so that I may be in its shade, eat of its fruit and drink of its water.' Allah Almighty will say to him: 'Is it not likely that, if I do this, you will ask Me for something else?' He will say: 'No, by Your Might! I will not ask You for anything else.' So Allah Almighty will bring him near it. Then the gate of Paradise will be opened to him, and he will say: 'O my Lord, bring me near the gate of Paradise so that I may be under the curtain of Paradise and see its people.' So Allah Almighty will bring him near it, and he will see Paradise and its blessings. He will say: 'O my Lord, admit me into Paradise.' So he will be admitted into Paradise, and when he enters Paradise he will say: 'Is all this for me?' Allah Almighty will say to him: 'Make your wishes (ask for whatever you want).' So he will wish, and Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will remind him: 'Ask for such-and-such as well,' until, when all his wishes are exhausted, Allah Almighty will say: 'All this is yours, and ten times as much besides.' Then Allah Almighty will admit him into his palace in Paradise, and his two wives from the wide-eyed houris will come to him and say: 'All praise is for Allah, who brought you to life for us and brought us to life for you.' He will say: 'No one has been given anything like what I have been given today.' And the one who receives the lightest punishment among the people of Hell will be a man who is made to wear two sandals of fire, from the heat of which his brain will boil."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the souls of the martyrs are inside the bellies of green birds. They have lanterns hanging beneath the Throne; they roam freely in Paradise wherever they wish, then return to rest in those lanterns. Their Lord casts a glance upon them and says: 'Do you desire anything?' They say: 'What could we desire when we roam (freely) in Paradise wherever we wish?' Allah Almighty repeats this question to them three times. When they see that they will not be left (without asking) (but will certainly be asked), they say: 'O our Lord, we wish that You return our souls to our bodies so that we may go back to the world and be killed in Your path once more!' When Allah Almighty sees that they have no other need (except that they wish to go back to the world, which is impossible), they are left alone."
