Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You are our brother and our mawla (freed slave and friend)." (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to Sayyiduna Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him).)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You are their imam, so lead them in prayer taking into account the weakest among them, and appoint a muezzin who does not take any payment for his call to prayer (adhan)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You are (merely) one who comforts and treats gently, and the true Physician (the Giver of cure) is Allah alone."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You are one freed by Allah from the Fire of Hell." (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him).)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You will be (on the Day of Resurrection) with the one you loved."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You are to me in the position that Harun (peace be upon him) held in relation to Musa (peace be upon him), except that there is no Prophet after me."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You are from me and I am from you." (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You and your wealth belong to your father."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You and your wealth belong to your father. Indeed, your children are among the purest of your earnings, so eat from the earnings of your children."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You know best the affairs of your worldly life."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"On the Day of Resurrection, you will have radiant faces and shining limbs because of performing ablution (wudu) completely and thoroughly."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"You are Allah's witnesses on the earth, and the angels are Allah's witnesses in the heaven."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Allah Almighty has taken responsibility for the one who goes out in His path, whom nothing brings out of his home except faith in Me and belief in My messengers, that He will bring him back with reward or spoils of war, or else admit him into Paradise. And were it not that I fear hardship for my Ummah, I would not stay behind any army unit. And I truly wish that I could be killed in the path of Allah, then be brought back to life, then be killed, then be brought back to life, then be killed and then be brought back to life."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"In the time of Musa (peace be upon him), two men declared their lineage. One of them said: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so,' until he had counted nine (of his disbelieving forefathers). Then he said: 'Who are you? May you have no mother!' The other replied: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so, and I am a son of Islam.' So Allah Almighty revealed to Musa (peace be upon him): Say to these two who boast of their lineage: 'O you who traced your lineage to nine forefathers who are in the Fire! You are the tenth of them in the Fire. And O you who traced your lineage to two who are in Paradise! You are the third of them in Paradise.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Wear sandals, and wear leather socks (khuffs), and act contrary to the People of the Book."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Banu Abd al-Muttalib! Draw the water (of Zamzam). Were it not that I fear people would overpower you in this service of giving water to drink (and, taking it to be a Sunnah, take this right away from you), I would have drawn water along with you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Qur'an was revealed in seven ahruf (modes of recitation)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Qur'an was revealed from seven gates in seven ahruf (modes of recitation), and all of them are healing and sufficient."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Scriptures of Ibrahim (peace be upon him) were revealed on the first night of Ramadan; the Torah was revealed when six days of Ramadan had passed; the Injil was revealed when thirteen days of Ramadan had passed; the Zabur was revealed when eighteen days of Ramadan had passed; and the Qur'an was revealed when twenty-four days of Ramadan had passed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"A surah has just been revealed to me a short while ago: 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar. So pray to your Lord and sacrifice. Indeed, it is your enemy who is cut off.' [Surah al-Kawthar: 1-3] Do you know what al-Kawthar is? It is a river which my Lord has promised me; upon it is abundant good. It is my Pond, to which my Ummah will come to drink on the Day of Resurrection; its vessels are as numerous as the stars. Then a servant from among them will be pulled away, and I will say: 'O my Lord! He is indeed from my Ummah.' Then He will say: 'You do not know what new things he invented (in the religion) after you.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Verses have been revealed to me the like of which have never been seen: they are "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak" [Surah al-Falaq: 1] and "Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind" [Surah an-Nas: 1]."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Get down from it (the camel), and do not remain in our caravan with something accursed. Do not invoke curses upon yourselves, nor invoke curses upon your children, nor invoke curses upon your wealth, lest your curse coincide with that hour of acceptance from Allah in which whatever is asked for is granted, and so that curse of yours is answered."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or oppressed. If he is an oppressor, stop him from committing oppression, and if he is oppressed, help him (in getting his right)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Help your brother, whether he is an oppressor or oppressed." It was asked: "How should I help him when he is an oppressor?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stop him from committing oppression; that (in reality) is helping him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Abu Mas'ud! Go (and do your work). Let me never find you on the Day of Resurrection coming with a groaning camel from the camels of charity (sadaqah) upon your back, one that you stole through misappropriation."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Three men from among those who were before you set out on a journey, until they took shelter in a cave to spend the night and entered it. Suddenly a rock fell from the mountain and blocked the mouth of the cave upon them. They said to one another: 'Nothing can save you from this rock except that you call upon Allah by means of your righteous deeds.' One of them said: 'O Allah! I had elderly parents, and I would not give the evening milk to my family or my slaves before them. One day I went far away in search of something, and when I returned they had already fallen asleep. I milked their evening milk for them but found them asleep. I disliked giving milk to my family or my property (slaves) before them, so I kept waiting for them to wake up with the cup of milk in my hand until dawn broke. Then they woke up and drank their milk. O Allah! If I did this solely to seek Your pleasure, then remove from us the distress of this rock.' The rock shifted a little, but they could not get out. The second said: 'O Allah! I had a cousin (my paternal uncle's daughter) who was the most beloved of all people to me. I desired her for evil, but she refused me, until a year of famine befell her and she came to me. I gave her one hundred and twenty dinars on condition that she would be alone with me. She did so, until, when I had gained power over her, she said: "I do not make it lawful for you to break the seal except by its right (marriage)." Hearing this, I refrained from going to her and moved away from her, even though she was the most beloved of people to me, and I also left the gold that I had given her. O Allah! If I did this solely for Your pleasure, then remove this distress of ours.' The rock shifted further, but they still could not get out of it. The third said: 'O Allah! I hired some labourers and gave them their wages, except for one man who left what was due to him and went away. I invested his wages in trade and increased them, until much wealth accumulated from them. After some time he came to me and said: "O servant of Allah! Give me my wages." I said to him: "These camels, cows, goats and slaves that you see are all your wages." He said: "O servant of Allah! Do not mock me." I said: "I am not mocking you." Then he took all of it and drove it away, leaving nothing of it. O Allah! If I did this solely for Your pleasure, then relieve us of this difficulty of ours.' The rock moved away completely, and they all came out walking."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Look! You are by no means better than anyone red or black, unless you surpass him through piety (taqwa)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(O women!) Look carefully at who your (foster) brothers are, for (valid) suckling is only that which satisfies hunger (that is, which takes place during the period of suckling in infancy)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Look at those who are below you and do not look at those who are above you (the wealthy), for it is more fitting that you do not belittle the blessings of Allah upon you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Look to Quraysh: take from their words, and leave their (bad) deeds."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(O woman!) Keep watching where you stand with regard to him (your husband) and his rights, for he is your Paradise and your Hell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I advise you to use cotton, for it will absorb and remove the (istihadah) blood."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Proceed calmly until you descend into their open ground, then invite them to Islam and inform them of what is obligatory upon them of the right of Allah. By Allah! If Allah Almighty guides even one man through you, it is better for you than red camels."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Bilal! Spend, and do not fear that the Lord of the Throne (Allah) will cause you want."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Keep spending (in the way of Allah) and do not count out what you keep, or else Allah too will count out what He gives you; and do not hoard wealth (in sacks or vessels), or else Allah too will withhold (His blessings) from you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Marry, for I will take pride in your great numbers (over the other nations on the Day of Resurrection)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, even your footprints are recorded."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, Adam (peace be upon him) was created from three kinds of soil: black, white and red."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Indeed, the family of such-and-such a tribe are not my friends (or patrons); my friend and supporter is only Allah and the righteous believers."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The family of Ja'far have become occupied with grief for their deceased, so prepare food for them."
