Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(The person most entitled to good treatment is) your mother, then your mother, then your mother, after that your father, and then whoever is a closer relative is entitled to that same degree."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(Treat well) your mother and your father, your sister and your brother, and then (treat well) each relative in order of how close they are to you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When (this verse of the Qur'an) 'not of those who have earned (Your) anger, nor of those who go astray' is recited, say Amin." [Surah al-Fatihah: 7]

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Jibril (peace be upon him) led me in prayer at the House (of Allah) twice. He led me in the Zuhr prayer when the sun had passed its zenith and the shadow was the length of a sandal strap; he led me in the Asr prayer when the shadow of everything was equal to its length; he led me in the Maghrib prayer at the time the fasting person breaks his fast; he led me in the Isha prayer when the twilight had disappeared; and he led me in the Fajr prayer at the time when food and drink become forbidden for the fasting person. Then, when the next day came, he led me in the Zuhr prayer when the shadow of everything was equal to its length; he led me in the Asr prayer when the shadow of everything was twice its length; he led me in the Maghrib prayer at the same time, when the fasting person breaks his fast; he led me in the Isha prayer up to one third of the night; and he led me in the Fajr prayer when the light had spread. Then he turned to me and said: 'O Muhammad, this is the time of the prophets before you, and the (prayer) time is between these two times.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The trustees of the Muslims over their prayers and their suhur are the mu'adhdhins."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Give some respite (that is, wait) so that we enter (our homes) at night, so that the woman with dishevelled hair may comb it, and the woman whose husband was away on a journey may remove her unwanted hair."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Remove this curtain of yours from us, for its pictures keep appearing before me in my prayer."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The trustworthy one of this Ummah is Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you cannot refrain from sitting on the roads, then guide the one who has lost his way, return the greeting of salam, and help the wronged."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you keep your hair, then honour it (that is, keep it clean and comb it)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you would love for Allah Almighty and His Messenger to love you, then when something is entrusted to you, give it back; when you speak, speak the truth; and treat well whoever is your neighbour."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you want your heart to become soft, then feed the poor and pass your hand over the head of the orphan."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Even if a black slave with his nose and ears cut off is made your leader, as long as he leads you according to the Book of Allah, listen to him and obey."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you overpower him (the enemy), kill him, but do not burn him with fire, for none may punish with fire except the Lord of the fire (Allah Almighty)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you sold dates to your brother and then some calamity struck those dates (and they were ruined), it is not lawful for you to take anything from him. On what basis would you take your brother's wealth unjustly?!"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you are attacked suddenly at night, then your watchword (secret password of recognition) should be 'Ha Mim, la yunsarun' (Ha Mim, they will not be helped)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you are true to Allah, He will be true to you in fulfilling His promise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you criticise his leadership (that is, of Usamah bin Zayd), then before this you criticised the leadership of his father. By Allah, he was certainly worthy of leadership, and he was among the people most beloved to me, and after him this one (Usamah bin Zayd) too is among the people most beloved to me. I enjoin you to treat him well, for he is one of the righteous among you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Allah, if You forgive, You forgive abundantly, and which servant of Yours is there who has not committed a sin?"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you wish, keep its principal (that is, the land or property) withheld (that is, make it an endowment) and give its produce in charity."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you two wish, I will give you (from the charity), but there is no share in it for a rich person, nor for a strong, healthy person able to earn."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you wish, I will tell you what leadership is. Its beginning is blame, its second stage is regret, and its third stage is punishment on the Day of Resurrection, except for the one who acted justly."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If I live, in sha' Allah, I will certainly forbid my Ummah from giving the names Nafi', Aflah and Barakah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If any of them (the sacrificial animals) becomes exhausted and breaks down (or is close to dying), then slaughter it (by nahr), then dip its neck-marker in its own blood and strike it on its side, and leave it for the people so that they may eat it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If any of them (the sacrificial animals) breaks down and you fear it will die, then slaughter it, then dip its neck-marker in its own blood and strike it on its side. But neither you yourself nor anyone of your travelling companions should eat any of that meat; rather, distribute it (among the people)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If the Hour begins to be established while one of you has a small palm seedling in his hand, then if he is able to plant it before the Hour is established, let him plant it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you are killed in the path of Allah while being steadfast, seeking the reward, advancing (towards the enemy) and not turning your back, Allah Almighty will forgive all your sins except debt. Jibril (peace be upon him) told me this just a little while ago."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If Allah Almighty has decreed something (the creation of a child), it will certainly come to be, even if the man practises withdrawal ('azl)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If ill omen were in anything, it would be in the house, the woman and the horse."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If he has gone out striving to earn a living for his young children, he is in the path of Allah; if he has gone out to provide for his elderly, frail parents, he is in the path of Allah; if he has gone out to work to keep himself (from the humiliation of begging), he is in the path of Allah; but if he has gone out for show and boasting, then he is in the path of Satan."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you have water that has been kept overnight in an old waterskin, give us some to drink; otherwise we will drink (directly from the stream) with our mouths."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If there is good in anything among your methods of treatment, it is cupping (hijamah)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If there is healing in anything among your remedies, it is in the incision of the cupper, or a drink of honey, or cauterisation with fire suited to the illness, but I do not like to be cauterised."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If that (pollinating the date palms) benefits them, then let them do it. I merely expressed an assumption, so do not hold me to account for my assumption. But when I tell you something from Allah, hold firmly to it, for I will never lie against Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you have committed a sin, then seek forgiveness from Allah Almighty and repent to Him, for true repentance from sin is (in fact) remorse and seeking forgiveness."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you want to keep (voluntary) fasts, then fast the Ayyam al-Bid (the 13th, 14th and 15th of the lunar month)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you want to fast, then keep to the days of the bright moonlit nights: that is, the 13th, 14th and 15th."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you truly are a servant of Allah, then raise your lower garment (above the ankles)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Just a little while ago you were doing what the people of Persia and Rome do: they stand over their kings while the kings are sitting. Never do that. Follow your imams: if he leads the prayer standing, then pray standing, and if he leads the prayer sitting, then you too should pray sitting."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If you love the ornaments of Paradise and its silk, then do not wear them in this world."
