Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a woman offers her five prayers, fasts in her month, guards her chastity and obeys her husband, it will be said to her: Enter Paradise by whichever of its gates you wish."
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, whose hadith is hasan (good). The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. Before this, the hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), "When a woman offers her five prayers," has already passed; it is similar to this narration and appeared in the chapter before this one.

Tell me what the right of the husband over the wife is, for I am a widow. If I am able to (fulfil it), well and good; otherwise I will remain as I am. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is the husband's right over the wife that if he desires intimacy with her while she is on the back of a camel, she should not refuse him herself. And it is also among the husband's rights over the wife that she should not observe a voluntary fast without his permission; if she does so, she will merely remain hungry and thirsty, and her fast will not be accepted. And she should not leave the house without the husband's permission; if she does so, the angels of the heaven, the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment will keep cursing her until she returns. The woman said: Then it is certain that I will never marry.

A'idhullah bin Abdullah Abu Idris al-Khawlani narrates: Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived in Yemen. He met a woman from the tribe of Khawlan who had twelve of her sons with her. She had left their father at home. Even the youngest of those sons had grown a beard. The woman stood up and greeted Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him), standing between two of her sons, who were holding her by her arms on either side. The woman asked: O sir! Who sent you? Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: The Messenger of Allah sent me. The woman asked: The Messenger of Allah sent you, and you are the envoy of the Messenger of Allah? Will you not tell me, O envoy of the Messenger of Allah? Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: Ask me whatever you wish. The woman said: Tell me what right a man has over his wife. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: She should fear Allah Almighty as much as she is able, and listen and obey. The woman said: I adjure you by Allah to tell me what right a man has over his wife. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said to her: Are you not content that you listen and obey and keep fearing Allah Almighty? The woman said: Yes, but tell me what right a man has over his wife, for I have left the father of these children at home, and he is a very old man. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the woman: By the One in whose hand is the soul of Mu'adh, if you went back to that man and found that leprosy had torn through his flesh and torn through his nostrils, and you found pus and blood flowing from his nostrils, and then you licked it with your mouth in order to reach his right, even then you would never reach his right (that is, you would not be able to fulfil his right).
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded it, from the narration of Abd al-Hamid bin Bahram from Shahr. There is weakness in both of them, although both narrators have also been declared trustworthy.

Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood in the row of the men and the women and said: O company of women! When you hear the adhan and iqamah of this Abyssinian, say the words that he says, and for every letter you will receive a million degrees. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: This is for the women; what is there for the men? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Double that, O Umar. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards the women and said: Any woman who obeys, fulfils her husband's right, remembers his goodness, and does not betray him regarding herself or his wealth, there will be a difference of only one degree between her and the martyrs in Paradise. If her husband is a believer and of good character, she will be his wife in Paradise too; otherwise Allah Almighty will marry her to one of the martyrs.
Al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains. In one of them it is mentioned that Abdullah al-Jazari narrated it from Sayyidah Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). One chain contains a narrator named Mansur bin Sa'd, and I do not know him. Its chain also contains Abbad bin Kathir, in whom there is great weakness; a group declared him da'if (weak). The rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). And in the other chain there is a group of narrators whom I do not know.

It is reported about Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that he came to Syria. There he saw the Christians prostrating to their bishops and patriarchs (that is, their religious leaders) and their monks, and he saw the Jews prostrating to their rabbis, their scholars and their jurists. Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Why do you do this? They replied: This is the way of greeting the prophets. So we said: Then we are more entitled to do this for our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he prostrated to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: O Mu'adh! What is the reason for this? He said: I went to Syria and there I saw the Christians prostrating to their religious leaders and monks, and I saw the Jews prostrating to their elders, jurists and scholars. I asked: Why do you do this and why do you perform this act? They told me: This is the way of greeting the prophets. So I said: Then we are more entitled to do this for our Prophet. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: These people have attributed a lie to their prophets, just as they distorted their books. If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would instruct the woman to prostrate to her husband, because his right is great. A woman cannot taste the sweetness of faith until she fulfils her husband's right, even if that man asks her for intimacy while she is sitting on the back of a camel's saddle.
Al-Bazzar recorded it in full, and Ahmad recorded it in abridged form. Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, and the same is true of one of Ahmad's routes. Al-Tabarani also recorded part of it.

If I were to command anyone to prostrate to another, I would have commanded the woman to prostrate to her husband. If the husband instructed his wife to move a yellow mountain to a black mountain, or a (black) mountain to a white mountain, it would be proper for the woman to do so (that is, to try to do so). Sayyiduna Ismah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The camel of an orphan boy from the Ansar became unruly, and we could not catch it. We came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this situation to him. He got up and came with us until he reached the garden in which the camel was. When the camel saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it came forward and prostrated to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We said: O Messenger of Allah, if you would permit us to prostrate to you just as people prostrate to kings. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This will not be in my Ummah. If I were to do that, I would command women to prostrate to their husbands.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains al-Fadl bin al-Mukhtar, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed through the mosque while some women were sitting there. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) greeted them with a gesture of his blessed hand and said: Beware of being ungrateful to those who bestow favours. One of those women said: O Messenger of Allah! I seek refuge with Allah, O Prophet of Allah, from ingratitude for the blessings of Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes indeed! One of you remains a widow (or divorced) for a long time, until her time (without a husband) grows long; then Allah Almighty grants her a husband, blesses her with children and grants her the comfort of the eyes; then that woman becomes angry and swears by the name of Allah that she has never seen a single moment of good from that husband. This is part of ingratitude for the blessings of Allah Almighty, and this is part of ingratitude towards those who bestow favours. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded this part of this narration: "He greeted the women."
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains Shahr bin Hawshab, and he is da'if (weak), although he has also been declared trustworthy.

Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to the women in a corner of the mosque, and I was among those women. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) heard the women's voices and said: O company of women! You are the greater part of the fuel of Hell. I called out to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in a loud voice, for I used to be bold in speaking with him, and I said: O Messenger of Allah! Why is that? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you are given something, you are not grateful; when you are put to trial, you are not patient; and when something is withheld from you, you complain. So beware of ingratitude towards those who bestow favours. I said: What is meant by ingratitude towards those who bestow favours? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A woman is with a man (that is, she is someone's wife) and has even borne him two or three children, yet she still says: I have never seen any good from you.

Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "It is not lawful for a woman to permit anyone whom her husband dislikes to enter her husband's house, nor to leave the house if her husband dislikes it, nor to obey anyone regarding him, nor to displease him, nor to keep away from his bed, nor to strike him, even if the husband has wronged her, until she has pleased her husband. If the husband becomes pleased and accepts her excuse, then that is well and good: Allah Almighty too will accept her excuse, the woman will be successful and there will be no sin upon her. And if the husband refuses and is not pleased with her, then the woman has presented her excuse."
Al-Tabarani recorded it with two chains, the narrators of one of which are thiqat (trustworthy).

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (said to the woman): Obey your husband. The woman's father died. The woman again sent a message to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Obey your husband.
