Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid al-Ansariyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed through the mosque while some women were sitting there. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) greeted them with a gesture of his blessed hand and said: Beware of being ungrateful to those who bestow favours. One of those women said: O Messenger of Allah! I seek refuge with Allah, O Prophet of Allah, from ingratitude for the blessings of Allah Almighty. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes indeed! One of you remains a widow (or divorced) for a long time, until her time (without a husband) grows long; then Allah Almighty grants her a husband, blesses her with children and grants her the comfort of the eyes; then that woman becomes angry and swears by the name of Allah that she has never seen a single moment of good from that husband. This is part of ingratitude for the blessings of Allah Almighty, and this is part of ingratitude towards those who bestow favours. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded this part of this narration: "He greeted the women."
Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains Shahr bin Hawshab, and he is da'if (weak), although he has also been declared trustworthy.
