Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: Two men brought a dispute before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) over a piece of land belonging to one of them, and they were from Hadramawt. The narrator said: One of the two began to take the oath, and the other became distressed and said: "In that case, he will take away my land." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he has wrongfully seized it by his oath, he will be among those at whom Allah Almighty will not look on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify him, and for him there will be a painful punishment." The narrator said: Then the other man became uneasy and returned the land.
Ahmad, al-Bazzar, Abu Ya'la, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
Sayyiduna Adi bin Umayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man from Kindah named Imru' al-Qays bin Abis brought a case before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) against a man from Hadramawt. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that the Hadrami had to provide proof, but he had no proof, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that Imru' al-Qays should take the oath. The Hadrami said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you allow him to take the oath, then by Allah (the narrator is unsure whether he said:) by the Lord of the Ka'bah, my land is gone!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears a false oath in order to seize someone's wealth by it, when he appears before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will be angry with him." The narrator Raja' said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price." Imru' al-Qays said: "O Messenger of Allah, what reward will there be for one who gives it up?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Paradise." He said: "Then I call you to witness that I have given up all of the land to him."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it, and the narrators of both are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna al-Urs bin Umayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man from Hadramawt and Imru' al-Qays bin Abis had a dispute over a piece of land. They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the Hadrami for proof, but he had no proof, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that Imru' al-Qays should take the oath. The Hadrami said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you allow him to take the oath, by Allah, he will take my land." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears a false oath in order to seize a Muslim man's wealth by it, when he appears before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will be angry with him." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Imru' al-Qays and recited this verse to him: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price," to the end of the verse. Imru' al-Qays said: "O Messenger of Allah, what will there be for one who gives it up?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Paradise." He said: "Then I call you to witness that I have given it up."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Iyad bin Khalid narrated: I saw two men disputing in the presence of Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears an oath in order to seize a man's wealth by it, when he appears before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will be angry with him."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I bear witness that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "No male or female servant swears a false oath beside this pulpit, even if it is over a fresh tooth-stick (miswak), except that Hell becomes due for him."
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Abu Salamah narrated: Marwan said: "Go and make peace between these two," meaning Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) and a woman named Arwa bint Uways. The narrator said: We came to Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: "Do you think that I have diminished anything of her right? I bear witness that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever takes a hand-span of land without right will be made to wear a collar of it from seven earths; whoever attaches himself in clientship (wala') to other than a people without their permission, upon him is the curse of Allah Almighty; and whoever seizes the wealth of a Muslim man by a (false) oath, Allah Almighty will not bless it for him.'"
Ahmad recorded it, and in the Sahih this part of it is reported: "Whoever seizes a hand-span of land will be made to wear a collar of it from seven earths." Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). Al-Bazzar recorded it in abridged form, and Abu Ya'la recorded it in full.
Sayyiduna Abu Sud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The false oath by which a man seizes the wealth of a Muslim makes the womb barren."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it, and its chain contains a narrator who is not named.
Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A false oath takes away wealth" (the narrator is unsure of one word here, but this is its meaning).
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except that Abu Salamah's hearing from his father (Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him)) is not authentically established; and Allah knows best.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears an oath that binds him (to something) while he is lying in it, let him prepare to take his place in Hell."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Ulathah, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared thiqah (trustworthy) and others declared da'if (weak), but declaring him weak has been rejected.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The act of obedience whose reward comes soonest is maintaining ties of kinship; the act of obedience whose reward comes soonest is maintaining ties of kinship. Sometimes the people of a household are sinners, yet their wealth grows and their numbers increase when they maintain their ties of kinship. And the sin whose punishment comes soonest is transgression and the false oath, which takes away wealth, burdens the womb, and leaves homes in ruin."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Abu al-Dahma' al-As'ab, whom al-Nufayli declared thiqah (trustworthy) and Ibn Hibban declared da'if (weak).
Sayyiduna Salamah bin al-Akwa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said on the pulpit: "Whoever swears a false oath, let him prepare to take his place in Hell."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears a false oath in order to seize the wealth of a Muslim by it, when he appears before Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection, Allah Almighty will be angry with him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Another hadith is reported from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him), which Abu Dawud recorded, and it is different from this hadith.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Abdullah bin Bazi', who is layyin (soft), and the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A dispute arose between Sayyiduna Mu'adh (may Allah be pleased with him) and a man, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that one of the two should take the oath. The other said: "O Messenger of Allah, you are letting him swear, and he will take it away!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he swears falsely" (the narrator said:) and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said severe words about it. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: There is a hadith from this Companion in the Sahih, which is different from this one.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Muhammad bin Sallam al-Manbiji, about whom it is said in his biography that he has strange (gharib) narrations; the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever swears a false oath in order to seize the wealth of a Muslim by it, when he appears before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will be angry with him; if He wills He will pardon him, and if He wills He will punish him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
It is in the Sahih, except that it does not have the words: "If He wills He will pardon him, and if He wills He will punish him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; the chain of al-Mu'jam al-Kabir contains Umar bin Muhammad bin Yahya bin Sa'id bin al-As, and I have not found anyone who has given his biography; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). The chain of al-Mu'jam al-Awsat contains a liar.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has permitted me to speak about a rooster whose two legs are in the earth and whose neck is bent beneath the Throne, and it says: 'Glory be to You, how great You are, our Lord!' And He replies to it: 'The one who swears falsely by Me does not know that.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Atik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever seizes a man's wealth by his oath, Allah Almighty makes Paradise forbidden for him and makes Hell due for him." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, even if it is something small?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if it is a tooth-stick (miswak)."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for Abu Sufyan bin Jabir bin Atik: Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned him, more than one of the narrators of the Sahih narrated from him, and no one has criticised him.
Sayyiduna al-Harith bin al-Barsa' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was walking between two of the Jamarat, saying: "Whoever takes anything from the wealth of a Muslim by a false oath, let him prepare to take his house in Hell."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever deliberately swears a false oath, let him prepare to take his place in Hell."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Umar bin Ibrahim al-Abdi, who is thiqah (trustworthy), though he has been criticised.
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We used to count the false oath (al-yamin al-ghamus) among the major sins.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Kathir Abu al-Fadl, from whom a group narrated, and no one declared him weak; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Tha'labah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever seizes a man's right by a false oath, it will become a black spot of sirsal in his heart, which nothing will change until the Day of Resurrection."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ubaydullah bin Tha'labah al-Ansari, whom I do not know; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Abu Ruhm al-Sama'i (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, the worst thief is the one who steals the tongue of the ruler; the greatest sin is that a man seizes the wealth of a Muslim without right; among good deeds is visiting the sick, and part of completing the visit is that you place your hand on him and ask him how he is; the most excellent intercession is that you intercede between two people (that is, a man and a woman) for marriage until you bring them together; the clothing of the earlier prophets was trousers; and the moment at which supplication is answered is sneezing." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Ibn Majah recorded part of it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), though some of them have been criticised in a way that does no harm.
