Sayyiduna al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever swears a false oath in order to seize the wealth of a Muslim by it, when he appears before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will be angry with him; if He wills He will pardon him, and if He wills He will punish him." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
It is in the Sahih, except that it does not have the words: "If He wills He will pardon him, and if He wills He will punish him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; the chain of al-Mu'jam al-Kabir contains Umar bin Muhammad bin Yahya bin Sa'id bin al-As, and I have not found anyone who has given his biography; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). The chain of al-Mu'jam al-Awsat contains a liar.
