It is reported about Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) that he paid ten thousand dirhams as ransom in place of his oath, and then said: "By the Lord of the Ka'bah, had I sworn, I would have sworn truthfully; but this is something I have given as ransom in place of my oath."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Once I bought (back) my oath for seventy thousand.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Isa bin al-Musayyab al-Bajali, who is da'if (weak).
Abd al-Qahir bin al-Sari narrated: A man hid at the home of Abu al-Sawwar al-Adawi; this was in the time of al-Hajjaj bin Yusuf. Al-Hajjaj was told that the man was at Abu al-Sawwar's home. Al-Hajjaj sent for him, and when he came, al-Hajjaj asked him: "Is the man with you?" He replied: "He is not with me." Al-Hajjaj said: "If that is not so, then the mother of al-Sawwar, that is, the wife of Abu al-Sawwar, is divorced." He said: "When I left her, I did not intend to divorce her." Al-Hajjaj said: "Very well, then you will be free of Islam." He asked: "Then where will you go?" So al-Hajjaj let him go.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Saghir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
