Sayyiduna al-Urs bin Umayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: A man from Hadramawt and Imru' al-Qays bin Abis had a dispute over a piece of land. They came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked the Hadrami for proof, but he had no proof, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ruled that Imru' al-Qays should take the oath. The Hadrami said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you allow him to take the oath, by Allah, he will take my land." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears a false oath in order to seize a Muslim man's wealth by it, when he appears before Allah Almighty, Allah Almighty will be angry with him." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Imru' al-Qays and recited this verse to him: "Indeed, those who exchange the covenant of Allah and their oaths for a small price," to the end of the verse. Imru' al-Qays said: "O Messenger of Allah, what will there be for one who gives it up?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Paradise." He said: "Then I call you to witness that I have given it up."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
