Nafi' narrated that Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) was delayed for the morning prayer, so Abu Nu'aym the mu'adhdhin (who was the first to give the adhan in Bayt al-Maqdis) led the people in prayer. Meanwhile Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) also arrived, and I was with him. We joined the prayer behind Abu Nu'aym. Abu Nu'aym was reciting aloud, and Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) began reciting Surah al-Fatihah (quietly). When they had finished the prayer, I said to Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard you reciting Surah al-Fatihah while Abu Nu'aym was reciting aloud? He said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in a prayer with loud recitation, and the recitation became difficult for him. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he turned his blessed face towards us and said: "When I recite aloud, do you perhaps also recite?" Some of us said: We do so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not do so. That is why I was thinking: what is the reason that reciting the Qur'an is becoming difficult for me? So when I recite aloud, do not recite anything of the Qur'an except Surah al-Fatihah."

Abu Bakr bin al-Harith al-Faqih informed us that Ali bin Umar al-Hafiz told us that Ibn Sa'id said: I think this is an error. Abu Nu'aym was only the mu'adhdhin; it is not as al-Walid said.
This is an error; Abu Nu'aym was the mu'adhdhin and the imam, and the hadith is from Makhul from Mahmud bin al-Rabi' from Ubadah, and from Makhul from Nafi' bin Mahmud from Ubadah, so it seems he heard it from both of them.
