أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ الْمَحْبُوبِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، ثنا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ، أنبأ شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُنْتَشِرِ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ عُبَايَةَ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَنِي تَمِيمٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: " لَا صَلَاةَ إِلَّا بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَمَعَهَا " قَالَ: قُلْتُ أَرَأَيْتَ إِذَا كُنْتَ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ قَالَ: " اقْرَأْ فِي نَفْسِكَ " وَمِنْهُمْ أَمِيرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ.
Ibrahim bin Muhammad narrates from his father that he heard Abayah, a man from Banu Tamim, (narrate) that Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There is no prayer without Surah al-Fatihah and something more (of the Qur'an) along with it. That man says: I said: What is your view when I am behind the imam? He said: Recite it (al-Fatihah) within yourself.
