(a) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali and Jabir (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the imam and the one following him should recite Surah al-Fatihah and another surah in the first two rak'ahs, while in the last two rak'ahs they should recite only Surah al-Fatihah. Among them is Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him).
Ubaydullah bin Abi Rafi''s hearing from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is established; he was his scribe.
(b) It has been narrated to us through Hammad and al-Hakam that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) used to order the recitation of Surah al-Fatihah behind the imam.
This is mursal, a corroborating witness to the connected report mentioned before, and in all of this there is an indication of the weakness of what is narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) to the contrary, through chains not worth mentioning because of their weakness.
