Hadith Beginning with the Letter Alif (أ)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Perform the bowing (ruku') and prostration fully (with humility and devotion). By the One in whose Hand is my soul, when you bow and when you prostrate, I see you even from behind my back."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Complete the front row first, then the one after it; and if there is any shortfall, let it be in the very last row."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Complete the rows, for indeed I see you even from behind my back."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Perform ablution (wudu) completely; woe to the heels (left dry), from the Fire (that is, ruin)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"A servant from among the servants of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, to whom Allah had given wealth, will be brought before Him. Allah will ask him: 'What did you do in the world?' He will say: 'O my Lord, I did no (special) deed, except that You gave me wealth, so I used to trade with people, and it was my habit to be lenient with the well-off and to grant respite to those in hardship.' Allah Almighty will say: 'I am more entitled to that than you. (O angels,) pardon My servant.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Approaching women in their back passages (that is, the anus) is unlawful."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Buraq was brought to me, and it was a tall white animal, larger than a donkey and smaller than a mule, which would place its hoof as far as its sight reached. I mounted it until I reached Bayt al-Maqdis, where I tied it to the ring to which the prophets used to tie (their mounts). Then I entered the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs in it. Then, when I came out, Jibril brought me a vessel of wine and a vessel of milk. I chose the milk, and Jibril said: 'You have chosen the fitrah (natural disposition).' Then we were taken up to the heaven. Jibril asked for the gate to be opened, and it was asked: 'Who are you?' He said: 'I am Jibril.' It was asked: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' It was asked: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes, he has been sent for.' So the gate was opened for us, and there I met Adam (peace be upon him); he welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then we were taken up to the second heaven. Jibril asked for the gate to be opened, and it was asked: 'Who are you?' He said: 'I am Jibril.' It was asked: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' It was asked: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes, he has been sent for.' So the gate was opened for us, and there I met the two maternal cousins, Isa bin Maryam and Yahya bin Zakariyya (peace be upon them both); they both welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then we were taken up to the third heaven. Jibril asked for the gate to be opened, and it was asked: 'Who are you?' He said: 'I am Jibril.' It was asked: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' It was asked: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes, he has been sent for.' So the gate was opened for us, and there I met Yusuf (peace be upon him), who had been given half of (the world's) beauty; he welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then we were taken up to the fourth heaven. Jibril asked for the gate to be opened, and it was asked: 'Who is this?' He said: 'I am Jibril.' It was asked: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' It was asked: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes, he has been sent for.' So the gate was opened for us, and there I met Idris (peace be upon him); he welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Allah Almighty has said: {And We raised him to a high station.} [Surah Maryam: 57] Then we were taken up to the fifth heaven. Jibril asked for the gate to be opened, and it was asked: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Jibril.' It was asked: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' It was asked: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes, he has been sent for.' So the gate was opened for us, and there I met Harun (peace be upon him); he welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then we were taken up to the sixth heaven. Jibril asked for the gate to be opened, and it was asked: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Jibril.' It was asked: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' It was asked: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes, he has been sent for.' So the gate was opened for us, and I met Musa (peace be upon him); he welcomed me and prayed for good for me. Then we were taken up to the seventh heaven. Jibril asked for the gate to be opened, and it was asked: 'Who is this?' He said: 'Jibril.' It was asked: 'Who is with you?' He said: 'Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).' It was asked: 'Has he been sent for?' He said: 'Yes, he has been sent for.' So the gate was opened for us, and I met Ibrahim (peace be upon him), who was sitting with his back reclining against al-Bayt al-Ma'mur, which seventy thousand angels enter every day and never return to it again. Then I was taken to Sidrat al-Muntaha (the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary), and its leaves were like the ears of elephants and its fruits were the size of large earthenware jars. When, by the command of Allah, there covered it what covered it, it changed, so that none of Allah's creation is able to describe its beauty. Then Allah revealed to me what He revealed, and He made fifty prayers obligatory upon me in every day and night. Then I descended to Musa (peace be upon him), and he asked: 'What has your Lord made obligatory upon your Ummah?' I said: 'Fifty prayers.' He said: 'Go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction, for your Ummah will not be able to bear that; I have tested the Children of Israel and have experience of them.' So I went back to my Lord and said: 'O my Lord, lighten it for my Ummah,' and He reduced five prayers for me. Then I came back to Musa (peace be upon him) and said: 'Five prayers have been reduced for me.' He said: 'Your Ummah will not be able to bear even that, so go back to your Lord and ask Him for a reduction.' So I kept going back and forth between my Lord and Musa (peace be upon him) until Allah Almighty said: 'O Muhammad, they are five prayers in every day and night, each prayer counting as ten, so that makes fifty prayers. Whoever intends a good deed but is unable to do it, one good deed is recorded for him, and if he does it, ten good deeds are recorded for him; and whoever intends an evil deed and does not do it, nothing is recorded, and if he does it, one evil deed is recorded.' Then I descended until I reached Musa (peace be upon him) and informed him, and he said: 'Go back to your Lord again and ask Him for a reduction.' I said: 'I have gone back to my Lord so many times that I now feel shy before Him.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The Buraq was brought to me, and it was a tall white animal which would place its hoof as far as its sight reached. Jibril and I did not leave its back until I reached Bayt al-Maqdis; then the gates of the heaven were opened for me, and I saw Paradise and Hell."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"On the night of the Mi'raj I passed by a people whose lips were being cut with scissors of fire; every time they were cut, they became whole again as before. I asked: 'O Jibril, who are these people?' He said: 'These are the preachers (orators) of your Ummah who used to say what they themselves did not do, and who used to recite the Book of Allah but did not act upon it.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"On the night of the Mi'raj (angels) came to me and took me to the water of Zamzam; then my chest was opened, then it was washed with the water of Zamzam, and then it was put back in its place and closed."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Uhud! Be firm (that is, be still), for upon you at this moment are a Prophet, a Siddiq, and two martyrs."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Hira! Be still, for upon you is a Prophet, or a Siddiq, or a martyr."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The heaviest prayers upon the hypocrites are the Isha prayer and the Fajr prayer; and if they knew how much reward lies in these two (prayers), they would certainly come to them, even if they had to come crawling on their knees. And indeed I resolved to order that the prayer be established, then to order a man to lead the people in prayer, then to take with me some men carrying bundles of firewood, go to those people who do not attend the prayer, and burn their houses down upon them with fire."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"(On the Day of Resurrection) the heaviest thing in the Scale (Mizan) will be good character."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The heaviest thing in the scale of the believer will be good character. Indeed, Allah Almighty intensely dislikes the one who is shameless, foul-mouthed and given to obscene speech."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There are two people whose prayer does not rise above their heads (that is, it is not accepted): a slave who has run away from his masters until he returns, and a woman who has disobeyed her husband until she desists (from that conduct)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There are two sins whose punishment Allah Almighty hastens in this very world: transgression and oppression, and disobedience to parents."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There are two traits among people which amount to disbelief in them: attacking someone's lineage and wailing (lamenting) over the dead."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"There are two things that the son of Adam dislikes: he dislikes death, although death is better for him than trial (fitnah); and he dislikes having little wealth, although having little wealth makes the reckoning easier."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Two things admit one into Paradise: whoever guards what is between his two jaws (that is, the tongue) and what is between his two legs (that is, the private parts) has entered Paradise."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"During the time of Jahiliyyah, eleven women gathered together and made a pact among themselves that they would speak truthfully and would not conceal anything about the state of their husbands. The first said: 'My husband is like the meat of a lean camel placed on the top of a mountain; the path is not easy so that it may be climbed, nor is the meat fat so that it may be carried off (with ease).' The second said: 'I cannot describe my husband's condition, for I fear that if I mention him, I will disclose all his faults, open and hidden.' The third said: 'My husband is very tall; if I speak, he will divorce me, and if I remain silent, he will keep me hanging.' The fourth said: 'My husband, when he eats, gathers up everything; when he drinks, he empties the vessel; and when he sleeps, he wraps himself up alone in a cloth and does not put his hand in to know my distress.' The fifth said: 'My husband is foolish and feeble-minded; every illness in the world is found in him; he will split your head, or break your bone, or do both.' The sixth said: 'My husband is like the night of Tihamah, neither excessively hot nor cold; there is neither fear of him nor weariness with him.' The seventh said: 'My husband, when he comes into the house, is like a cheetah, and when he goes out, he is like a lion, and he does not even ask about what he has left in the house.' The eighth said: 'My husband's touch is soft like a rabbit's, and his fragrance is like that of zarnab (a fragrant plant); I prevail over him, and he prevails over people.' The ninth said: 'My husband is a man of lofty pillars, of a long sword-belt (brave), of abundant ashes (generous), and his house is right next to the place of assembly.' The tenth said: 'My husband's name is Malik, and what is Malik? Malik is far better than anything I could describe. He has few camels out at pasture and many kneeling at home; when those camels hear the sound of the lutes, they become certain that the time of their ruin (that is, of being slaughtered for guests) has come.' The eleventh said: 'My husband's name is Abu Zar', and what is Abu Zar'? He loaded my ears with jewellery and filled my arms with fat (that is, he fed me until I grew plump); he gave me so much joy that I myself began to take pride in myself. He found me among the owners of a few goats living in a ravine, then he brought me among people who had the neighing of horses, the groaning of camels, threshing and clean grain. Whatever I said to him, I was not rebuked; when I slept, I slept late into the morning; and when I drank, I drank until fully quenched. The mother of Abu Zar' (my mother-in-law), what of her? Her large vessels were full and her house was very spacious. The son of Abu Zar', what of him? His sleeping place was as slender as the sheath of a drawn sword, and the foreleg of a four-month-old kid would satisfy him. The daughter of Abu Zar', what of her? She was obedient to her father and dutiful to her mother, she filled out her clothes, and she was a cause of rage for her co-wife. The slave girl of Abu Zar', what of her? She did not spread our talk among people, she did not waste our provisions, and she did not fill our house with rubbish. One day Abu Zar' went out while the milk was being churned, and he passed by a woman who had two children, like young cheetahs, playing with two pomegranates beneath her waist; so he divorced me and married that woman. After him I married a very noble and brave man who rode a swift horse and held a spear in his hand; he would bring many fine animals to me in the evening and give me a pair of every kind of animal, and he would say: 'Eat, O Umm Zar', and feed your family as well.' Yet if I were to gather together all the things he gave me, they would not fill even the smallest of Abu Zar''s vessels.' (On hearing this) the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): 'O Aishah, I am to you just as Abu Zar' was to Umm Zar', except that Abu Zar' divorced, and I will not divorce.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Gather together over your food and mention the name of Allah; blessing will be placed in it for you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Avoid anger."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Avoid the seven destructive sins: associating partners with Allah, practising magic, killing a soul whom Allah has made sacred except by right, consuming usury (riba), consuming the wealth of an orphan, turning one's back and fleeing on the day of battle, and slandering chaste, unaware believing women."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Avoid the seven major sins: associating partners with Allah, killing unjustly, fleeing from the battlefield, consuming the wealth of an orphan, consuming usury (riba), slandering a chaste woman, and reverting to desert life after the Hijrah (that is, being cut off from the religion and the community and returning to ignorance)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Avoid the major sins, stay on the right course (adopt moderation), and accept the glad tidings."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Avoid every intoxicant."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Avoid whatever intoxicates."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Avoid these filthy deeds (indecencies and sins) which Allah Almighty has forbidden. Whoever falls into any of them should keep it concealed with the concealment of Allah and repent to Allah, for whoever exposes his sin before us, we will carry out upon him the punishment according to the Book of Allah."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Leave some interval between your adhan and your iqamah, so that the one making ablution may attend to his need at ease and the one eating may finish his food calmly."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Make Witr the last of your prayers at night."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Place a barrier of the lawful between yourselves and the unlawful. Whoever does that has safeguarded his honour and his religion. And whoever grazes in it (doubtful matters), his example is that of a shepherd who grazes his animals around a protected pasture; they are about to stray into it. Indeed every king has a protected pasture, and indeed Allah's protected pasture on earth is the things He has made unlawful."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Place a screen between yourselves and the Fire, even if it be with half a date (given in charity)."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Perform some of your prayers (the Sunnah and voluntary prayers) in your homes, and do not make them graveyards."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Sit down, for you have harmed people and you have come late." (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to a man who was stepping over people's necks on Friday.)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"O Abu Turab! Sit down." (He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Be moderate in seeking this world, for everyone is facilitated towards what has been written for him of it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Accept the invitation of one who invites you, do not return a gift, and do not strike the Muslims."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When you are invited to this invitation (a wedding feast and the like), accept it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The most beloved religion to Allah Almighty is the Hanifiyyah (the religion of pure devotion to Allah), in which there is gentleness and ease."
