What do you say about them?" The Companions said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These are shameful deeds, and there is punishment for them. Shall I not tell you what the greatest of the major sins is? Associating partners with Allah." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And whoever associates partners with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin" [al-Nisa: 48]; and disobedience to parents. Then he said: "Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the final return" [Luqman: 14]. He (peace and blessings be upon him) had been reclining, then he sat upright and said: "Beware! And false speech." Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Everything that Allah has forbidden is a major sin.

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) had drawn close to his Companions. He (peace and blessings be upon him) recited these two verses in a loud voice: "O people, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the Hour is a tremendous thing. On the Day you see it, every nursing mother will be distracted from the child she nursed, and every pregnant woman will deliver her load, and you will see the people intoxicated, yet they will not be intoxicated; but the punishment of Allah is severe" [al-Hajj: 2]. When the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) heard this, they urged their mounts on and understood that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to say something special. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what day that is?" The Companions said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is a day when Adam (peace be upon him) will be called. His Lord will call him and say: 'O Adam, send forth the party of the Fire.' He will say: 'O Lord, how many?' He will say: 'From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine to the Fire and one to Paradise.'" At this the Companions were so distressed that not one of them could laugh. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the state of his Companions, he said: "Work and rejoice. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), there are with you two creations who have never been part of anything without making it numerous: Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj), and those of the children of Adam who perished." Then some of the distress the Companions were feeling was lifted from them. Then he said: "Work and rejoice. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), you are among the people no more than a mole on the side of a camel, or a mark on the foreleg of an animal."

The narrator said: When the Companions heard this, they were distressed, and not one of them parted his lips (in a smile) so that his teeth showed. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the state of his Companions, he said: "Know and rejoice. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), there are with you two creations who have never been with any people without making them numerous: Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj) - I think he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: along with those of the offspring of Iblis who perished - and you are among the people no more than a mole on the side of a camel, or a mark on the foreleg of an animal."
