حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَمْزَةَ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْجَمَاهِرِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ التَّنُّوخِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عِمْرَانَ قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَاتَانِ الْآيَتَانِ عَلَى نَبِيِّ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ فِي مَسِيرٍ لَهُ، وَقَدْ تَقَارَبَ الْمَسِيرَ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَحَبَسْنَا الْمَطِيَّ وَعَرَفْنَا بِأَنَّ ذَلِكَ عِنْدَ قَوْلٍ يَقُولُهُ فَلَمَّا تَأَسَّيْنَا حَوْلَهُ، قَالَ: «هَلْ تَدْرُونَ أَيُّ يَوْمٍ هَذَا؟» قُلْنَا: اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ، قَالَ: " هَذَا يَوْمٌ يَقُولُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: يَا آدَمُ ابْعَثْ بَعْثًا إِلَى النَّارِ قَالَ: يَقُولُ: يَا رَبِّ مِنْ كَمْ؟ قَالَ: مِنْ كُلِّ أَلْفٍ تِسْعُمِائةٍ وَتِسْعَةٌ وَتِسْعِينَ فِي النَّارِ " قَالَ: فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ ذَلِكَ أَصْحَابُهُ أُبْلِسُوا، فَلَمْ يَفْتُرْ رَجُلٌ مِنْهُمْ عَنْ وَاضِحَةٍ، فَلَمَّا رَأَى مَا بِأَصْحَابِهِ قَالَ: " اعْلَمُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا، فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ، إِنَّ مَعَكُمْ لَخَلِيقَتَيْنِ مَا كَانَتَا مَعَ قَوْمٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا كَثَّرَتَاهُ يَأْجُوجُ وَمَأْجُوجُ - أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: مَعَ مَا هَلَكَ مِنْ وَلَدِ إِبْلِيسَ، وَمَا أَنْتُمْ فِي النَّاسِ إِلَّا كَالشَّامَةِ فِي جَنْبِ الْبَعِيرِ أَوْ كَالرَّقْمَةِ فِي ذِرَاعِ الدَّابَّةِ "
Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When these two verses were revealed to the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey of his, and the pace of travel among the Companions had drawn close together, we held back our mounts and understood that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to say something. When we had gathered around him (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Do you know what day this is?" We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: "This is a day on which Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, will say: 'O Adam, send forth a party to the Fire.' He will say: 'O Lord, how many?' He will say: 'From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine into the Fire.'" The narrator said: When the Companions heard this, they were distressed, and not one of them parted his lips (in a smile) so that his teeth showed. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the state of his Companions, he said: "Know and rejoice. By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), there are with you two creations who have never been with any people without making them numerous: Gog and Magog (Ya'juj and Ma'juj) - I think he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: along with those of the offspring of Iblis who perished - and you are among the people no more than a mole on the side of a camel, or a mark on the foreleg of an animal."
