Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the mi'rad (a blunt arrow). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If it strikes with its edge, then eat; and if it strikes with its broad side (the blunt part) and kills, then it is waqidh (an animal that died without being slaughtered), so do not eat it." I said: I send my dog and it eats (of the game)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you send your dog and mention the name of Allah, then eat." I said: And if it eats? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then do not eat, for it only held it back for itself; it did not hold it back for you." I said: I send my dog and find another dog with it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not eat, for you only mentioned the name (of Allah) over your own dog; you did not mention it over the other."

Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about hunting. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you send your dog, mention the name of Allah; then if you find that it has killed and has not eaten anything, then eat, for it held it back for you." The rest of the hadith is like the previous narrations on this subject.

And if another dog joins your dog, and it kills (the game) and does not eat of it, still do not eat anything of it, for you only mentioned the name over your own dog; you did not mention the name over the other. And when you shoot an arrow, mention the name of Allah; then if you find that it fell into water and died, do not eat it, for you do not know whether the water killed it or your arrow. And if you find it after one or two nights and see no mark on it other than the mark of your arrow, then eat it if you wish."
