Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "When you send your dog, mention the name of Allah; then if it holds (the game) back for you and you find it alive, slaughter it; and if you find that it has killed it and not eaten of it, then eat. And if you find other dogs with it, then do not eat, for you do not know which of them killed it. And when you shoot your arrow, mention the name of Allah over it; then if it holds it back for you, eat. And if you find it after it has been missing for a day and find nothing on it except the mark of your arrow, then eat if you wish. And if you find it drowned in water, then do not eat."
