Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the mi'rad (a blunt arrow). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If it strikes with its edge, then eat; and if it strikes with its broad side (the blunt part) and kills, then it is waqidh (an animal that died without being slaughtered), so do not eat it." I said: I send my dog and it eats (of the game)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you send your dog and mention the name of Allah, then eat." I said: And if it eats? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then do not eat, for it only held it back for itself; it did not hold it back for you." I said: I send my dog and find another dog with it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not eat, for you only mentioned the name (of Allah) over your own dog; you did not mention it over the other."
