Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 14222 — We went to Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim

Imam al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We went to Sayyiduna Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask him about hunting, and Muhammad bin Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) was with us. I said to him: You are people of hunting, so tell us about hunting. Sayyiduna Adi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: We are people of the two mountains, and most of our food is game. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "With what do you hunt it?" I said: With dogs and arrows. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When your dogs catch (the game), mention the name of Allah over it, then eat what they hold back. And if another trained dog joins in, do not eat it without slaughtering it. And if you pull it out of water, do not eat it without slaughtering it, for it is waqidh."
