We will ask you about some things; if you answer us about them, we will follow you, affirm you and believe in you. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) took from them the same covenant that Ya'qub (peace be upon him) had taken upon himself. They said: Allah is Guardian over what we say. They said: Tell us the sign of a prophet. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "His eyes sleep but his heart does not sleep." They said: Tell us how a woman gives birth to a girl and how she gives birth to a boy. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The two fluids meet; if the woman's fluid prevails over the man's fluid, a girl is born, and if the man's fluid prevails over the woman's fluid, a boy is born." They said: Tell us which of the angels comes to you, for there is no prophet except that one of the angels comes to him with the message and the revelation; so who is your companion? For only this question remains. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Jibril (peace be upon him)." They said: That is the one who comes down with war and fighting; he is our enemy. Had you named Mika'il, who comes down with rain, we would have followed you. Upon this Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed this verse: "Say: Whoever is an enemy to Jibril" [Surah al-Baqarah: 97], to the end of the verse.
