Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One night we talked at length in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The next day, when we came to him, he said: "Last night the Prophets and their nations were presented to me. A Prophet passed by with three people with him; another passed by with a group with him; another had a larger number with him; and another had no one with him at all. Then Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) passed by me, and with him was a great host of the Children of Israel. They pleased me, and I said: 'Who is this?' I was told: 'This is your brother Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him), and with him are the Children of Israel.' I said: 'Where is my nation?' I was told: 'Look to your right.' When I looked, the horizon was filled with the faces of people. I was told: 'Are you pleased?' I said: 'O my Lord! I am pleased.' Then I was told: 'Along with these people, seventy thousand will enter Paradise without any reckoning.'" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May my father and mother be ransomed for you! If you are able, be among those seventy thousand; if you fall short, then be among the people of the hillocks (al-Zirab); and if you fall short further, then be among the people of the horizon, for I saw people there who were in very great numbers." The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Ukkashah bin Mihsan (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah Almighty for me that He make me among the seventy thousand." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him. Then another man stood up and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray to Allah Almighty that He make me among them as well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ukkashah has preceded you in this." The narrator says: Then we began to discuss who those seventy thousand would be. Some said: "It refers to those who were born in the era of Islam and then never associated anyone as a partner with Allah until they died." News of this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They are those who do not have themselves cauterised, do not seek ruqyah (incantation), do not take bad omens, and who place their trust in their Lord."
Ahmad recorded it with various chains; al-Bazzar recorded it in a more complete form than this; al-Tabarani and Abu Ya'la recorded it in a greatly abridged form. Among the various chains of Ahmad and al-Bazzar, the narrators of one are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the Zuhr prayer until the end of its time. Then he came out and led the prayer, and then he said: "I saw in a dream that the nations were presented to me. A Prophet came with five people, another with more than that. Then I saw a large group and thought that it must be my nation, but I was told: 'This is the nation of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him).' Then I saw Sayyiduna Isa bin Maryam (peace be upon him); he was a man of fair complexion with curly hair, his colour inclining to reddish. And I saw" (the narrator says: after this there are words whose meaning is that 'I saw a great number') "and I was told: 'This is your nation.' And I was also told that along with them there will be seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise without any reckoning or punishment." Sayyiduna Ukkashah al-Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Make me among these seventy (thousand)" (that is, pray for me about this). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are one of them." Another man said: "O Messenger of Allah! Make me among them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ukkashah has preceded you in this." Those present said (later to one another): "What is your opinion about who these seventy thousand will be?" One said: "They will be those whose hearts are softened towards Islam." Some said: "They will be people who are believers, who never associated partners with Allah and never worshipped anyone besides Allah Almighty." Their voices rose, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and asked: "What were these voices about?" The people said: "O Messenger of Allah! We were discussing who those seventy thousand people will be." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will be those who do not have themselves cauterised, do not seek ruqyah (incantation), do not take bad omens, and who place their trust in their Lord."
Al-Bazzar recorded it from his teacher Umar bin Isma'il bin Mujalid, and there is agreement on his being da'if (weak).

Hadith Takhrij «
Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to the people and said to them: "My Lord has given me a choice between seventy thousand people entering Paradise without any reckoning, or something (that is, intercession) being kept in store with the Lord for my nation." One of his Companions said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! Will your Lord keep that in store?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went inside the house, then came out saying the takbir, and said: "My Lord has granted me, along with every thousand of them, a further seventy thousand, and has also granted the thing kept in store with Him (that is, intercession)." (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: After this he mentioned the complete hadith, which is mentioned in the chapter on intercession.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and there is weakness in the chains of both.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: One night the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delayed the Isha prayer until a large part of the night had passed, so much so that some of those present in the mosque fell asleep. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out, some people were sleeping and some were praying, and all of them were waiting for the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As long as people are waiting for the prayer, they are continuously counted as being in prayer. Were it not for the weakness of the elderly and the crying of children, I would have delayed the Isha prayer until a part of the night had passed." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Seventy thousand people will enter Paradise who will not be taken to account." The narrator says: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went into the house. When he had gone into the house, we sat among ourselves and began talking about those seventy thousand people: would they be the martyrs? Some said: "They will be the martyrs." Some said: "They will be the believers." Meanwhile the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out and asked: "What are you people discussing?" We told him about it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They will be those who do not have themselves cauterised, do not seek ruqyah (incantation), do not take bad omens, and who place their trust in their Lord."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Mujalid bin Sa'id, whose case is different, and he has been declared thiqah (trustworthy).

Shurayh bin Ubayd narrates: Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) fell ill in "Hims". The governor of that city was Abdullah bin Qurt al-Azdi, and he did not come to visit him. A man from the Kala'iyyin came to visit Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him: "Can you write?" He replied: "Yes!" Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Write!" Then he dictated this letter for the governor Abdullah bin Qurt: "This is from Thawban, the freed slave of the Messenger of Allah. To proceed: If there had been in your territory a freed slave of Sayyiduna Musa (peace be upon him) or Sayyiduna Isa (peace be upon him), you would have visited him." Then he folded the letter and said to him: "Deliver this to the governor." He said: "Very well." Then that man took the letter and handed it over to the governor. When the governor read it, he stood up in alarm. The people asked: "What has happened to him? Has some new situation arisen?" The governor came to Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him), visited him and sat with him for a while. When he began to get up, Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) took hold of his cloak and said: "Sit down, so that I may tell you a hadith that I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I heard him say: 'Seventy thousand people of my nation will enter Paradise in such a way that they will not be taken to account nor will they suffer any punishment, and along with every thousand of them there will be a further seventy thousand.'"

But had you said it, I would have said it, and had I said it, it would have become binding."
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator Atiyyah, who is da'if (weak), though he has been declared thiqah (trustworthy), and a narrator Mahmud bin Bakr, whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna al-Faltan bin Asim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was present in a gathering. He looked at a man who was walking in the mosque and said: "O so-and-so!" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Here I am." He said nothing else; he only said: "O Messenger of Allah!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Do you bear witness that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He replied: "No!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Have you read the Torah?" He replied: "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "The Injil?" He replied: "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "The Qur'an?" He said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul! If I wished, I could read it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) adjured him by Allah and asked: "Do you find mention of me in the Torah and the Injil?" He said: "We find mention of one like you, of the emergence of one like you, and of a form like yours. We hoped that that final Prophet would be from among us, but when you appeared, we feared that you might be him. When we investigated the matter, it became clear that you are not him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why is that?" He said: "With him (the final Prophet) there will be seventy thousand people of his nation from whom no account will be taken and who will suffer no punishment, whereas with you there are only a few people." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By the One in whose Hand is my soul! It is I, and they will be my nation, and they will be more in number than seventy thousand and a further seventy thousand."

People began asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission (to go ahead), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began granting them permission. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What is the reason that the side of the tree next to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is more disliked by you than the other side?" The narrator says: At this all the people began to weep. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Whoever asks you for permission after this, in my view he will be nothing but a fool." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up, praised and glorified Allah Almighty, and said: "I bear witness before Allah Almighty." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) swore an oath, he would say: "By the One in whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), whoever among you believes in Allah Almighty and then remains upright will be made to travel into Paradise on account of it. My Lord has promised me that He will admit seventy thousand people of my nation into Paradise in such a way that no account will be taken of them and they will suffer no punishment. And I hope that they will not enter it until you, and the righteous among your wives and children, have taken up your dwellings in Paradise." After this the narrator mentioned the complete hadith. Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), although there is slight weakness in a narrator named Abu Hilal al-Rasibi.

Sayyiduna Utbah bin Abd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Lord has promised me that He will admit seventy thousand people of my nation into Paradise without any reckoning, and then every thousand of them will intercede for seventy thousand people." (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: After this he mentioned the complete hadith, which is a long narration and will come further on in the chapter on the description of Paradise.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat and al-Mu'jam al-Kabir by way of Amir bin Zayd al-Bakali. Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned him but neither criticised him nor declared him trustworthy; the remaining narrators of this narration are thiqat (trustworthy).

Then there will be three handfuls of my Lord, joining both palms (that is, filling them He will bring people out of Hell)." Qays says: I asked Sayyiduna Abu Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him): "Did you yourself hear this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He replied: "Yes! My ears heard it and my heart preserved it." Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "If Allah wills, the Muhajirun of the nation of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) will make up this number, and Allah Almighty will complete the remaining number by means of our Bedouins."

Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there was a solar eclipse. I heard the commotion of people's voices; they were saying: "A sign (has appeared)!" At that time we were in (a fortress of Madinah) "Fari'". I wrapped myself in a cloth of Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and set out, and I came to Aishah, while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at that time leading the people in prayer. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: After this the narrator mentioned the complete narration, in which further on are these words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I saw fifty (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are) seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise, and they will be like the moon on the fourteenth night." A man stood up and said: "Pray to Allah Almighty that He make me among them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, make him among them!" (Then he said:) "Until I come down from my pulpit, whatever you ask me about, I will tell you about it." A man stood up and asked: "Who is my father?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your father is so-and-so," and he mentioned the very person to whom he was attributed. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) about the solar eclipse is mentioned in the "Sahih" and other books.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it. Al-Tabarani recorded these additional words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit and said: "O people! Indeed the sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah Almighty. They are not eclipsed because of anyone's death or life. When you see them (in a state of eclipse), turn to prayer, charity and the remembrance of Allah. I saw fifty thousand of you (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are) seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise without any reckoning." After this the narrator mentioned the hadith as before, and the narrators of both are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Amir bin Umayr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed in for three days and did not come out for the obligatory prayer. When this was mentioned to him, he said: "I have found my Lord Glorious and Generous. Along with each one of the seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise without any reckoning, He has granted me a further seventy thousand people. I said: 'My nation will not reach this number,' or 'complete it?' He said: 'I will complete them for you by means of the Bedouins.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except al-Tabarani's teacher, whose case is different. There is also idtirab (inconsistency) in this narration regarding the name of the Companion: according to one view his name is Sayyiduna Amr bin Umayr, according to another Sayyiduna Umayr bin Amr, according to another Sayyiduna Umarah bin Umayr, according to another Sayyiduna Amr bin Hazm, and according to another Sayyiduna Amr bin Bilal.

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "My Lord has granted me seventy thousand people of my nation who will enter Paradise without reckoning." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Why did you not pray for more?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I did pray for more, and He granted me seventy thousand people along with each individual." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Why did you not pray for more?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I asked Him for more, and He granted me like this." Here the narrator named Abdullah bin Abi Bakr spread his hands open in front of him. Abdullah said: He spread out both his arms, and Abdullah made a handful (that is, joined both palms). Hisham said: "This is from Allah Almighty, and its number cannot be known."
Ahmad recorded it; al-Bazzar recorded something similar, and al-Tabarani recorded something similar. Their chains contain this: it is narrated by al-Qasim bin Mihran from Musa bin Ubayd. This narrator Musa bin Ubayd is the freed slave of Khalid bin Abdullah bin Usayd; Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Kitab al-Thiqat. Al-Qasim bin Mihran was mentioned by al-Dhahabi in "Mizan al-I'tidal", (stating) that only Sulaym bin Amr al-Nakha'i narrated from him, whereas that is not so, for Hisham bin Hassan narrated this hadith from him. The remaining narrators of its chain are used as evidence in the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "When the servants stand for the reckoning, some people will come who will have their swords placed on their necks, dripping with drops of blood. They will crowd at the gate of Paradise. It will be asked: 'Who are these?' It will be said: 'These are the martyrs, who were alive and were given provision.' Then a caller will call out: 'Let the one whose reward is due from Allah stand up and enter Paradise.' Then he will call out a third time: 'Let the one whose reward is due from Allah Almighty stand up and enter Paradise.' He will say: 'Whoever is such that his reward is due from Allah, let him enter Paradise.' Then so many thousands upon thousands of people will stand up, and they will enter it without reckoning."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its narrators have been declared thiqat (trustworthy), although there is some weakness in some of them.
