Sayyidah Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: In the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there was a solar eclipse. I heard the commotion of people's voices; they were saying: "A sign (has appeared)!" At that time we were in (a fortress of Madinah) "Fari'". I wrapped myself in a cloth of Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and set out, and I came to Aishah, while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was at that time leading the people in prayer. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: After this the narrator mentioned the complete narration, in which further on are these words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I saw fifty (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are) seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise, and they will be like the moon on the fourteenth night." A man stood up and said: "Pray to Allah Almighty that He make me among them." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, make him among them!" (Then he said:) "Until I come down from my pulpit, whatever you ask me about, I will tell you about it." A man stood up and asked: "Who is my father?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your father is so-and-so," and he mentioned the very person to whom he was attributed. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: The hadith of Sayyidah Asma' (may Allah be pleased with her) about the solar eclipse is mentioned in the "Sahih" and other books.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it. Al-Tabarani recorded these additional words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ascended the pulpit and said: "O people! Indeed the sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah Almighty. They are not eclipsed because of anyone's death or life. When you see them (in a state of eclipse), turn to prayer, charity and the remembrance of Allah. I saw fifty thousand of you (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are) seventy thousand people who will enter Paradise without any reckoning." After this the narrator mentioned the hadith as before, and the narrators of both are thiqat (trustworthy).
