Abd al-Wahid al-Bunani narrates: I was with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) when a man came to him and said: "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! I have bought this orchard which has grapes in it. We cannot sell all of them as grapes; some have to be pressed." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "You want to ask me about the price of wine? I will narrate to you a hadith that I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Once we were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he raised his head towards the sky, then lowered it and began scratching the ground. Then he said: 'Woe to the Children of Israel!' Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'O Messenger of Allah! This saying of yours has alarmed us: Woe to the Children of Israel!' The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'None of that ruin will come upon you. When fat was declared unlawful for those people, they would melt it, sell it and consume its price. In the same way, the price of wine is unlawful for you.'" (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud recorded a hadith of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about the prohibition of the price of wine, but that narration is different from this one.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except for the narrator Abd al-Wahid, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Kaysan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he used to trade in wine. Once he came from Syria with waterskins of wine that he intended to trade, and he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have brought you wine of a very fine quality." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Kaysan, it has been declared unlawful after you (left)." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Shall we sell it then?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has been declared unlawful, and its price (too)." So Sayyiduna Kaysan (may Allah be pleased with him) went to those waterskins, took hold of them from the bottom and poured them out.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it; its chain contains Nafi' bin Kaysan, and he is mastur (of unknown condition). In a narration of al-Tabarani the words are: "Should I not sell it to the Jews?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who sells it is like the one who drinks it."

Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Ghanm (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Al-Dari used to present a waterskin of wine to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a gift every year. When the year came in which it was declared unlawful, he brought a waterskin. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at it, he laughed and said: "Do you know that it was declared unlawful after you (left)?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Should I not sell it and benefit from its price?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty has cursed the Jews, Allah Almighty has cursed the Jews, Allah Almighty has cursed the Jews, for they went to what was declared unlawful for them, the fat of sheep and cattle, melted it, made it into something like it, sold it and consumed its price. Wine is unlawful and its price is unlawful too; wine is unlawful and its price is unlawful too; wine is unlawful and its price is unlawful too."
Ahmad recorded it in this way from Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Ghanm (may Allah be pleased with him), that this incident happened with al-Dari. Its chain contains Shahr, whose hadith is hasan (good), and there is criticism about this narrator.

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man used to carry wine from Khaybar to Madinah and sell it to the Muslims, earning money in return. Once he came to Madinah with wine, and a man from among the Muslims met him and said: "O so-and-so! Wine has been declared unlawful." So wherever he was, he placed the wine there on top of a mound and threw sheets over it. Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have learned that wine has been declared unlawful?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes!" He said: "Do I have the right to return it to the one I bought it from?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not right to return it." He said: "Do I have the right to give it as a gift to someone who will give me something in return for it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No!" He said: "There is also some wealth in it belonging to orphans who are under my care." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the wealth of Bahrain comes to us, come to us and we will compensate you for the wealth of the orphans in your care." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had it announced: "O people of Madinah!" The narrator says: A man said: "O Messenger of Allah! There are also these vessels from which we benefit." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Untie their fastenings," until the wine flowed out and went into the low part (of the valley).
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani recorded the meaning of part of this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. The chains of all of them contain Ya'qub al-Qummi and Isa bin Jariyah; both have been criticised, though both have also been declared trustworthy.
