Sayyiduna Kaysan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that in the blessed time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he used to trade in wine. Once he came from Syria with waterskins of wine that he intended to trade, and he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I have brought you wine of a very fine quality." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Kaysan, it has been declared unlawful after you (left)." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Shall we sell it then?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It has been declared unlawful, and its price (too)." So Sayyiduna Kaysan (may Allah be pleased with him) went to those waterskins, took hold of them from the bottom and poured them out.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat recorded it; its chain contains Nafi' bin Kaysan, and he is mastur (of unknown condition). In a narration of al-Tabarani the words are: "Should I not sell it to the Jews?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who sells it is like the one who drinks it."
