Yahya bin Abbad narrates: A waterskin of wine was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); this was after the command of its prohibition had been revealed. When it was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "Wine has been declared unlawful." One of those people said: "If these people were to sell it and give its price to the poor Muslims (would that be fine)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order, and it was poured out in a low-lying area of Madinah. He said: "May Allah Almighty curse the Jews! Fat was declared unlawful for them, so they sold it and began consuming its price."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Ash'ath bin Sawwar, who is thiqah (trustworthy), though he has been criticised.
