Hadith Beginning with the Letter Mim (م)

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Whatever good I have, I will never hold it back from you. Whoever seeks to refrain from asking, Allah keeps him from it; whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah makes him self-sufficient; and whoever strives to be patient, Allah grants him patience. And no one has been given a gift better and more vast than patience."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"What prevents you from listening to what I advise you? That when you reach the morning and when you reach the evening you say: 'O Ever-Living, O Sustainer of all! By Your mercy I seek help. Set right all my affairs for me, and do not leave me to myself even for the blink of an eye.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"It is not fitting for any prophet to say: 'I am better than Yunus bin Matta.'"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Ibn Jamil has no excuse for not giving zakah except that he was poor and Allah made him rich. As for Khalid, you are wronging Khalid, for he has dedicated his armour and his war equipment in the path of Allah. As for Abbas, his zakah is upon me, and the same amount again. O Umar, do you not know that a man's paternal uncle is like his father?"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Give her the mut'ah (parting gift), for giving the mut'ah is necessary, even if it is only half a sa' of dates."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Give her the mut'ah, even if it is only a sa'."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the son of Adam is that beside him are ninety-nine causes of death; if these causes miss him, he falls prey to old age and dies."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the miser and the one who gives charity is that of two men wearing coats of iron armour from their chests to their collarbones. Whenever the spender spends anything, the armour expands over his body until it covers his fingertips and erases his footprints. And whenever the miser wants to spend anything, every ring of the armour sticks in its place; he tries to widen it, but it does not widen."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the house in which Allah is remembered and the house in which Allah is not remembered is like that of the living and the dead."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of a righteous companion is like that of a perfume seller: even if he does not give you any of his perfume, its fragrance will surely reach you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of a righteous companion and an evil companion is like that of a musk seller and a blacksmith's furnace. From the musk seller you will surely get something: either you will buy it, or at least its fragrance will reach you. As for the blacksmith's furnace, it will either burn your house or your clothes, or a foul smell from it will surely reach you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the five prayers is like a sweet, flowing river at the door of one of you, in which he bathes five times every day. Would any dirt remain on his body?"

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the scholar who teaches people good but forgets himself is like a lamp that gives light to people but burns itself."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the one who upholds the limits of Allah and the one who is negligent concerning them is like that of people who cast lots for a ship at sea. Some of them got the upper part of the ship and some got the lower part. When those in the lower part wanted to get water, they would pass by those above them. So those in the upper part said: 'We will not let you come up and trouble us.' Those in the lower part said: 'What if we make a hole in our own part and do not trouble those above us?' So if those above leave them to what they intend, they will all perish, and if they hold them by their hands, they will be saved and all will be saved."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the heart is like a feather that the winds turn over and over in an open wilderness."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the one who gives charity and then takes it back is like a dog that vomits, then returns to its vomit and eats it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the one who learns knowledge and then does not pass it on is like one who amasses treasure and does not spend from it."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the one who takes back what he gifted is like a dog that vomits and then eats its vomit. So if the giver wants to take back what he gave, he should be stopped and told on what basis he is taking it back, then what he gave should be handed over to him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the one who teaches people good but forgets himself is like a wick that gives light to people but burns itself."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the one who helps his people in what is not right is like a camel that has fallen into a pit and is being pulled out by its tail."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer who recites the Qur'an is like a citron (sweet lemon): its fragrance is good and its taste is good. The example of the believer who does not recite the Qur'an is like a date: its taste is good but it has no fragrance. The example of the wicked person who recites the Qur'an is like basil (a fragrant plant): its fragrance is good but its taste is bitter. The example of the wicked person who does not recite the Qur'an is like colocynth (bitter apple): its taste is bitter and it has no fragrance. The example of a righteous companion is like a musk seller: even if you get nothing from him, his fragrance will surely reach you. And the example of an evil companion is like the owner of a furnace: even if its soot does not touch you, its smoke will surely reach you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer who recites the Qur'an is like a citron: its fragrance is good and its taste is good. The example of the believer who does not recite the Qur'an is like a date: it has no fragrance but its taste is sweet. The example of the hypocrite who recites the Qur'an is like basil: its fragrance is good but its taste is bitter. And the example of the hypocrite who does not recite the Qur'an is like colocynth: it has no fragrance and its taste is not good."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer is like a tender stalk of crops: the wind sometimes bends it and sometimes straightens it. And the example of the hypocrite is like a cedar tree that stands upright until it is uprooted all at once."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer is like crops that the wind keeps bending, and trials keep befalling the believer as well. And the example of the hypocrite is like a cedar tree that does not sway until it is uprooted all at once."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer is like a tender stalk of crops: from whichever direction the wind comes to it, it bends it, and when the wind subsides it stands straight again. Likewise the believer is bent by trials. And the example of the wicked person is like a sturdy, upright cedar tree, until Allah Almighty breaks it whenever He wills."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer is like an ear of grain, which sometimes stands upright and sometimes bends down; and the example of the disbeliever is like the cedar tree, which remains standing upright until it suddenly falls without any warning."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer is like an ear of grain, which sometimes bends and sometimes stands upright."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer is like the honeybee: if it eats, it eats what is pure; if it deposits something, it deposits what is pure; and if it lands on a frail twig, it does not break it. And the example of the believer is also like an ingot of gold: if it is blown upon (in the fire), it turns red, and if it is weighed, it does not fall short."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer is like the honeybee: it eats only what is pure and deposits only what is pure."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believer is like the date palm: whatever you take from it benefits you."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the believers in their mutual love, mercy and compassion is like one body: when any limb of it suffers, the rest of the body joins it in sleeplessness and fever."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the one who strives (does jihad) in the path of Allah - and Allah knows best who strives in His path - is like the one who fasts, stands in prayer, is humble, and bows and prostrates."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the one who strives (does jihad) in the path of Allah - and Allah knows best who strives in His path - is like the one who continually fasts and stands in prayer, who does not tire of fasting and charity until he returns. And Allah Almighty has guaranteed for the one who strives in His path that if He causes him to die, He will admit him into Paradise, or else He will return him safe and sound with reward or spoils of war."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the Muslims, the Jews and the Christians is like a man who hired some people to work for him until night. They worked until midday, then said: 'We have no need of the wage you fixed for us, nor of the work we have done for you.' He said to them: 'Do not do this; complete the rest of your work and take your full wage.' But they refused and abandoned it. Then after them he hired other labourers and said: 'Work the rest of your day, and you will have the wage I fixed for the first ones.' They worked until, when the time of the Asr prayer came, they said: 'What we have done is yours, and the wage you fixed for us is yours as well.' He said: 'Complete the rest of your work, for only a small part of the day remains.' But they refused. Then he hired some other people to work for him for the rest of the day. They worked the remainder of the day until the sun set, and they received in full the wages of both earlier groups. So this is their example, and the example of this light which they accepted."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the hypocrite is like a stray sheep between two flocks: sometimes it runs towards this flock and sometimes towards that one, not knowing which of them to follow."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of my Ummah is like rain: it is not known whether its beginning is better or its end."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the guidance and knowledge with which Allah has sent me is like abundant rain that falls on land. Part of it is fertile, absorbing the water and producing herbage and grass in abundance. Part of it is hard ground that holds the water, and Allah benefits people through it: they drink from it, give their animals to drink, and graze their livestock. And another part of it is barren plain that neither holds water nor grows any vegetation. That is the example of the one who gains understanding of the religion of Allah and benefits from what Allah has sent me with, so he learns and teaches others; and the example of the one who does not even raise his head towards it and does not accept the guidance with which I have been sent."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"If something equal to the back post of a camel saddle is in front of any of you, then whoever passes in front of him does not harm him."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"My example among the prophets is like a man who built a house, made it excellent, complete and beautiful, but left the place of one brick empty in it. People began walking around the building, marvelling at it and saying: 'If only the place of this brick had been filled too!' So among the prophets, I am the place of that brick."

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"My example is like a man who kindled a fire. When it lit up what was around him, moths and these insects that fall into fire began falling into it. He began holding them back, but they overpowered him and plunged into it. That is my example and yours: I am holding you back from the Fire: 'Keep away from the Fire, keep away from the Fire!' But you overpower me and plunge into it."
