«مثل البخيل والمتصدق كمثل رجلين عليهما جبتان من حديد من ثديهما إلى تراقيهما فأما المنفق فلا ينفق شيئا إلا سبغت على جلده حتى تخفي بنانه وتعفوأثره وأما البخيل فلا يريد أن ينفق شيئا إلا لزقت كل حلقة مكانها فهو يوسعها فلا تتسع»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"The example of the miser and the one who gives charity is that of two men wearing coats of iron armour from their chests to their collarbones. Whenever the spender spends anything, the armour expands over his body until it covers his fingertips and erases his footprints. And whenever the miser wants to spend anything, every ring of the armour sticks in its place; he tries to widen it, but it does not widen."
